Eastern Promises sequel
Fans of the first film will be happy to hear that a sequel to David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises is in the works. Viggo Mortensen, the original screenwriter, producer, and studio Focus Features are all on board the sequel.
Cronenberg is supposed to have a meeting to discuss story ideas and then have writer Steven Knight dish out a script. If everyone likes it, they'll go ahead with the sequel. Cronenberg had this to say:
"It’s the first time I’ve ever been in a situation where I actually want to do a sequel to something. I’ve never had the desire to do that before. But in this case, I thought we had unfinished business with those characters. I didn’t feel that we had finished with Nikolai and we had done a lot of research that was more than we could stuff into that one movie."
No word if Naomi Watts would return, especially since they're not sure where they would go with her character anyway. They're also not sure how Vincent Cassel as gangster "Kirill", will fit into the story either.
I liked the first movie, but felt there was a lot of potential action that was missing, since it was more a drama than anything. I guess I was expecting too much considering I really loved History of Violence. Hopefully this sequel would give us a bit more of what was missing in the first.

That's a cool notion, but I wonder where they can go with this thing.
Furthermore, I don't know how much I should talk about the ending of the first one because of the ridiculous spoilers needed.
In all honesty, this seems like the kind of movie with "prequel" written all over it.

Heard about this. I would love to see it happen.

I trust Cronenberg enough to make something worth watching, and the first one was pretty great... so I'm looking forward to it.

If Cronenberg's directing, I'll give it a watch.

My boss interviewed Cronenberg on Monday around the same time MTV interviewed him. He didn't mention anything about EP2 but my boss almost said to him that it's a good thing Cronenberg doesn't ruin his movies with sequels....luckily he didn't say that. Granted that COULD have led to some more info about the movie. Either way, looking forward to it.

I think there are plenty of ways they could go with a sequel. Now that we know the main character's secret the filmcould have a much different tone than the original.

First one was alright, nothing classic IMO
