I'm pretty sure it was the IT miniseries that first got me into Stephen King.
I think there is something to be said for the miniseries being a gateway to the book. I saw the miniseries first which I thought was great at the time, but then I read the book some years later and was blown away.
Maybe this re-boot can do the same thing for a new generation of viewers. I still have some confidence in it due to the fact that they are splitting it into two parts with an R rating and Cary Fukunaga at the helm, it seems that they want to do this right.
For what it's worth, I still enjoy the original miniseries to an extent when it focuses on the kid's part of it. Any scene involving the adults is pretty painful to watch though.
I actually hated Needful Things because they had changed a few things from the book.....one that hit a nerve was that it was Ace Merrill (played by Keifer Southerland) from Stand by Me that pretty much destroyed the town and not Danforth Keeton III. Don't ask me why it did; it just did, and still to some degree still does....maybe I thought it would have been better casting doing it that way.
The only thing i liked about the Mist was the Fucked up ending, an the Spiders. As far as the Movies go I have a soft spot for "Sometimes They Come Back Again", and "Sleep Walkers".
I seen Sleep Walkers at the Drive In when it first come out and remeber not really caring for it. I did revisit this not long ago, an I enjoyed the hell out of it. But my Favorite King Movie has got to be Maximum Overdrive:rock: its got one of the best King cameos ever!"Honey, this Machine just called me an Asshole.":hehe: everything about that flick is fun. Lil leaguers getting slaughtered, the annoying bride....Curtissss.......Are you Dead? One of the best soundtracks ever AC/DC:rockin: and Emilio. Love me sum Maximum Overdrive!:2thumbs:
My top 5 Stephen King adaptations:
The Shining (1980)
Carrie (1976)
IT (1990)
The Langoliers
Misery
Im thinking this is probably going to be a bad movie, not because of who is playing Pennywise, but because for me anyway, remakes in general suck. I know King had issues with all the movies made from his books like The Shining and so on but imo the films he writes just seem too stale. The Shining tv mini-series had bad acting in it and was just boring. He is a great novelist but he needs to leave filmmaking to the guys who do it or a living.
King gave this script his blessing
It's gonna suck because hollywood sucks in general.
I don't mind the guy playing Pennywise... yes Curry will be impossible to top, but the kid is a good young actor, and can probably play it evil and creepy.
Atleast it isn't tyler Lautnor(is he even still relevant?)
King is hit or miss to translate onto film...
Christine is amazing, as is the shining(I know it's different, but dare I say better)
Most of the TV showings are good on the first night, and fall apart on the second night...
I don't know if it was in the book, but the whole spider fight was downright laughable.
One exception... I love the Stand.
Here's my review of Christine for Awesome.Shit Ninja.

^That link was of Christine. Not Carrie
bah... Im a putz
Christine is f'king awesome. :metalbang: If I made a top 10 list I would probably include that.
I didn't find it laughable. Could've been better, though. Don't know why they gave it a crab face.
I'd still prefer that to any cgi shit. I've never seen a cgi rendering of a spider that didn't look outright silly.
IT being a giant spider-like creature is pulled directly from the book. However it was executed much better in the book. IT even had saliva that pooled on the ground and moved as if it were alive.
Spoiler...The sex scene that took place in the sewer when they were kids and they took Beverly's virginity was of course left out.
I don't think the movie ever even let it be known that IT was a female and also preggo.
I don't know if I like that idea of a kid orgy.
Also IT being female and pregnant... to give birth to little ITs? I don't understand that idea, either.
Plus, I'm pretty sure that IT's isn't actually a spider, it just takes that form to feed.
