KING's words....:dream:
Bava <3 <3 <3
Fuck, now I'm in the mood...I should finish these. :hmmm:
I've only seen A Bay of Blood and Blood and Black Lace, and both are excellent.
What other Bava flicks should I check out ?
Mario Bava rules.
I'm semi-familiar with his work but never done a proper marathon before. So far, I've watched:
Kill Baby Kill (I love this one)
Blood and Black Lace (possibly my favourite giallo)
5 Dolls for an August Moon (complicated plot but I love the 60s stylishness of it)
Hercules in the Haunted World (fucking awesome)
Black Sunday (gothic masterpiece)
Going to check out more. Main thing is the beautiful lighting, colours and atmosphere. I think he influenced a lot of directors. I love the imagination and style of these movies. Definitely up there with the best. :whew:
Don't really see what's so complicated about the plot .....I found it to be more intriguing than anything else, but would rather watch Rene Clair's And Then There Were None (1945) than Dolls for an August Moon or just about any other film based on the Agatha Christie novel
Nothing against Bava; I think he's one of the most notable directors of giallo
I don't usually pay much attention to the plot unless it really interests me. Plus it's easy to miss lines of dialogue, so I just try to enjoy the cinematic experience. I don't usually watch movies to listen to people talking, but that's just me. :whew:
(All I had to do was look up the plot afterwards and I understood it all, anyway)
Wow the old Bava Thread :dream: Good times. :confident:
Just missing Steelba now :)
Watched Lisa and the Devil and Planet of the Vampires.
Lisa and the Devil is an intriguing gothic mystery. Didn't really understand much of what was going on. The atmosphere was perfect, though, and the ending reminded me of The Langoliers. :confident: Had a few decent kill scenes.
Planet of the Vampires is like a trippy 60s version of Prometheus and/or Alien. Although the aliens take people over with mind control instead. A lot of the scenes really do remind you of Alien, and the spacesuits look like the spacesuits in Prometheus.
Also forgot to mention Danger: Diabolik. A James Bond like, comic book movie with an anti-hero who steals from the government, has an underground base, cool car and gadgets and a sexy female accomplice. This guy is cooler than Bond IMO. He does a Fight Club style move and blows up the government's tax records. One of the most underrated comic book movies.
Black Sabbath is probably my favourite anthology film now. The first story reminded me a lot of When a Stranger Calls or Black Christmas with the threatening phone calls and a girl all alone in her home. The second story is a gothic vampire tale with that old school spooky atmosphere you never see in movies anymore. Last story is a 'ghost revenge' like Ringu and the ghost is very creepy looking.
Boris Karloff hosts and stars in it. He injected a bit of humour, also.
Blu-ray looks awesome. A must see. :confident:
