Call for Entries - Other Worlds Austin SciFi film festival

This year marks the 2nd annual Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival, which runs December 3-5, 2015. With the final set of deadlines approaching (September 30th for films, October 15th for screenplays), we want to encourage filmmakers and writers to take advantage of getting their material in to us before its too late.

Other Worlds Austin is the one-and-only film festival in Austin, TX dedicated to Science Fiction Filmmaking. With a team of programmers who love science fiction, write science fiction, or make science fiction films of their own, we are in this for one reason only, to put on a great festival. We are looking for great stories that aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of the audience, thrilling them both visually and intellectually. At our debut festival, we world premiered three features, gave three features their US premieres, programmed several Texas premieres, as well as three programs of shorts. OWA is firmly committed to supporting exciting filmmakers, by giving them exhibition opportunities for films that are often overlooked on the film festival circuit.

This year we’ve extended that mission to screenwriting as well. From the birth of cinema, screenwriters have stretched our imaginations with stories from Other Worlds, taking us on a Trip to the Moon, following the adventures of Flash Gordon, or frightening us with The Day the Earth Stood Still. On the page, anything is possible, and really, what's more 'future' than writing a screenplay for something you hope will get made someday? Even a short that you intend to shoot yourself is an unrealized opportunity in the writing stage. As part of its ongoing mission to promote Science Fiction, Other Worlds Austin has announced its first SciFi Screenwriting Contest to reward creativity in its earliest stages and encourage writers to keep working in the genre.
