Lost After Dark - There's a lot wrong with it, but over all not too bad
I just finished with that one myself.
Definitely was not bad, they did a good job with the retro/80s style.... trying to pass 28 year olds off at 16... so 80s horror.
My biggest problem was the digital degradation of the film. If you're going to go all the way and pretend it was filmed in the 80s as well and the film is damaged, then do it on 35mm. You can always tell digital and it looks goddamn stupid.
pod (2015) - what the fuck? this "horror" movie spends more time on family issues nobody can relate to - thats not entirely true - if your parents died and your older brother was kicked out of the army as the result of being crazy - then maybe you can relate. It's highlight was when the one girl who's acting was just awful and who kept screaming loudly was put to rest, i wont spoil how but still not worth the price of bandwidth i spent downloading this crap.
The Conjuring - yes. Based on true events they kinda throw what some people say is an innocent woman under a bus to get the results they want still plays really well. The set up, the back story and the heros all work so well together and create a solid 112 minutes of good investigative horror. Outside of Insidious i can't think of another movie that has gotten it right in recent years. Good movie and glad they are doing a follow up with the Warrens.
Poltergeist (remake) - Meh. For some reason I like Sam Rockwell - (maybe green mile driven? ??) so i went in open minded and hoping that we'd eventually see him dance again maybe? either way it lacked Sam replaced some 'oh that would be cool if we could see what was happening on the 'other side' or a different take on x,y,z. Overall it doesn't make it right, but it's still better than poltergeist 3 so who am i to judge?
The Harvest (2013) - Not sure why this has been classified as a horror. Its a thriller but i tell you what, i enjoyed it. Great acting, solid story line and kept me interested from start to finish. Recommend this film, 7/10
If we did that then we would simply dumb it down to quick and petty scares that wouldnt make much sense or have much purpose.
ITs a short movie as it is and is really..... it could be considered a spin off of XFiles if they wanted to take it that route. Its very similar in nature to some of the old xfiles stories.
The Ruins
Wow... im just... im flabbergasted.
Apparently woodenheart is the only other one with good taste.
Pod was phenomenal.

I completely agree. This was easily, by far, the best horror movie ive seen this year. And there have been quite a few really good indy horror movies lately.
It really took me back to a Jacob's Ladder type. It took time to develop characters properly, didnt unnecessarily use jump scares, was filmed in the proper location.. i mean... that snow and lake and the cabin... perfect for this story. The actors were fantastic. They built suspense and tension. I really want to see if they do a "Pods" follow up. If its the same writers, director and producer, this could be a legendary series in the vein of Alien/Aliens. It took its time to develop the way a proper movie, not just horror movie, but movie, should.... Hitchcock would be proud.
The movie was so good, im considering giving it a blow job.... i might just have to give the DVD a uhhhhh rim job.
Pod 3/10
I have to side with the Pod is a pile of crap members. I barely made it through. I didn't find it suspenseful whatsoever and I really didn't give a shit about anyone involved. I love me some slow burn movies but this was a wet match that wouldn't ignite even if you doused it with lighter fluid and tried to light it by throwing it into a fire. I wanted to kill the sister myself just to shut her up. The brother was a bore and ho-hum to the point I didn't care what the hell happened to him...as long as he got less screen time. Basically for a movie that is only an hour and ten minutes I could just watch an A&E family intervention reality show and watch a family scream at each other and wouldn't notice the difference. I am impressed though that they made such a ridiculously short movie feel as long as a cruise to the Bahamas.
Careful with that disc, some of those holes have sharp edges!
No idea why Pod seems to be such a hit or miss.....kinda makes me very curious, but terrified to see this all at the same time:D I will say the previews look good without revealing much
now i'm curious lol. is it streaming on netflix?
it's not on netflix.
For me, there was absolutely no tension built. I was interested from the preview because the idea seemed cool but the execution of the idea was :negative:
I saw it on Vudu. They took my money and laughed. You can watch it there but I don't recommend paying to see it.
Agreed.
I already looked into the directors filmography. I watched Ritual, it wasn't bad and he seems to have this style with lighting, he keeps it short and uses not many players. What I am really looking forward to is his newest film Darling. Take a look at a thread I made on my site.

I also messaged him on FB with a friend request of course. :confident:
I need to track down Ultra Violence, thats his other film. He Seems to like Lauren Ashley Carter, she played the sister in Pod and will star in Darling. She was great in JugFace aswell.
I was on the edge of my seat watching Pod. Fucking amazing film.
The House With a 100 Eyes, 2013. 6/10

Great gore FX and pretty insane couple here picking up strangers for snuff films but nudity was blurred, wtf?? Good storyline that could have been expanded. Let the sick shit flow! I say. 5 dollar rental. Meh.
