Not a fan of Roth but I was bored and happened to have the chance to watch this so I gave it a whirl. Figured I would turn it off but I ended up watching the whole thing...but don't let that make you think it is any good. It's not.
Not typical Roth fare here and he is saved by the always likable Keanu Reeves. The women are gorgeous and actually play their parts well but this movie is as grating as the "torture" they put poor Keanu through. First time I have ever seen a movie where the villain(s) use loud music as torture :stare2: Yes, in this movie loud music and making a mess is torture.
This feels like a made for TV movie with excessive cursing and thematic events that TV content won't allow. The entire film has that super low budget tinge to it like Aftershock did. I have no idea what Keanu is doing in this and I'm just glad they got John Wick 2 underway before this hit theaters (Wouldn't want this shitty role to damper that from happening). Ultimately a completely forgettable flick which may test some viewers to actually sit through the whole thing. What can I say, I like Keanu and will watch just about anything he is in but this tested me.
I never saw the movie this is a remake of "Death Game" but I have to assume it has to be better than this garbage.
On a plus side, if you can even consider this a plus...Roth does pull of some pretty nifty cinematography at times. It's so shocking to even say that now I wonder if someone else took the help for those few shots.
