Ghostbusters meets Scooby Doo.
I don't think the film needed to be remade at all
I think now that the general consensus with reviews is that the movie is good it will actually make a shitload of money and seemingly make a lot of people angry. Then we get to experience all the negativity for the sequel all over again :whew:
Where do you see people saying its good? All the reviews (except one) ive seen say it was as bad as everyone expected.
This film seems to be getting great reviews, it is certified fresh over at rotten tomatoes. There are some bad reviews here and there but the good ones have gotten me interested in seeing it
I learned if you go in with low expectations on most remakes, that from time to time you might find yourself Pleasantly surprised.

Angry nerds, take note: The ladies are the best thing about this franchise reboot. Kate McKinnon is a spontaneous eruption of hellfire hilarity. - Peter Travers in Rolling Stone
Just an example. Out of 127 reviews it is 75% on RT.
75% is a pretty damn high number for RT.
Yah i saw the RT thing last night. I feel its a set up and simply manipulation by Sony.
The best reviews ive seen of more trusted sources, at best say its okay but many of the problems people expected are there with... i forget who said it.. a new and very obvious attempt with Sony attempting to brand this movie as much as possible and attempt to franchise/star war's it.
Can't say for myself as I haven't seen it but I know friends of mine who had screening passes and most of them liked it.

Im slightly interested in seeing it, was never a massive GB fan so it wouldnt hit me as hard as if this was say.... Star Wars. But there seems to be common theme's with many reviewers.... brand pushing. bland characters. incoherent at times. It does not recognize the old canon. Felt like a bunch of partial new SNL skits thrown together.
I think the more interesting story at this point is why we see this massive disconnect between between... say... what we see with sites that can be manipulated by Sony versus ones that cant. Im sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle, at least for me, but i think this story will end up being more interesting than the movie itself.
The remake's being hammered down on imdb.com at the moment, 12,000 reviews and a 4.0 rating.
IMDB actually seems way more in line with the majority of what ive seen. Even when we dismiss the 10's and 1's we know it does not deserve or are simple trolls, the average is still 5.6, which is very far from something along the lines of the "spontaneous eruption of hellfire hilarity" we see on RT.
Metacritic user reviews are 121 positive, 3 mixed, and 7 negative.
I think a lot of the debate is just generational gaps. A lot of kids today probably feel like this movie will be better than the original. A lot of kids today can't get into anything pre 90s, even the 90s is tough for them to take. I'm not saying that's everybody from the newer generations. Some kids today probably run into the older movies first and view them as better for whatever reasons. The larger point is generational gaps.
I mean just think when the time comes for JAWS and Back To The Future once Zemeckis and Spielberg sign off on them or die?
Zac Efron as Matt Hooper
Chris Pratt as Quint
Chris Hemsworth as Chief Brody
You could expect a cast something to that effect. Some will love it, some will absolutely hate it. Some will say they brought in the right amount of new age talent. Others will say they hired a bunch of pretty boys by comparison to the cast of the original film.
Think about Back To The Future for a fast second.
Liam Hemsworth as Marty McFly?
Sucks to think anyone could fill Lloyd's role as Doc Brown...maybe Liam Cunningham from GOT?
Megan Fox as Jennifer? Ellie Fanning? Who?
Seth Rogen as Biff Tannen?
Unless the idea is just to start gender switching everything...
Marlene McFly
Dr. Emily Brown
Joey...the boyfriend of Marlene McFly
Brianna Tannen
For JAWS
Marissa Hooper from the Oceanographic institute
Chief Allie Brody
Quincy...the old crusty fisherwomen
Ive heard people suggest its possibly a generational gap thing. For certain specifics of movies we could say this (type of comedy in the film, type of action, etc) but overall i dont think understanding good literature and storytelling is a generational thing and most remakes (and many newer movies and tv shows) suffer from poor storytelling. This is nothing unique, but weve never seen such blind devotion with almost no objectivity.... its the internet age. We discussed this in a previous thread about how the internet has given us this new and weird generation of pro and con fanboys for every little thing.
My daughter isn't in to these types of movies, she is more of a hardcore horror type of girl...what can I say she takes after me.
Her friends wanted to go see this last night so I let her since one of their sisters who is a lot older was going to stay with them.
She loved the movie. She woke me up around midnight (which I wasn't happy about) when she got home to tell me how awesome it was.
She has seen the original countless times with me and still loved this one.
I see that as being a theme here. Those who didn't grow up with the original will end up liking this. Hell some who did grow up with the original may end up liking it.
She saw it in IMAX 3D and the show was sold out. There were 3 other shows starting all around the same time and they were all sold out as well. So expect numbers to be pretty huge for opening weekend at the very least.
13 years old and she even saved up her own money to go, kinda proud of her
they do not care if it pisses people off. As long as the money rolls in thats all they care about. If they thought it would "piss" people of then NO remakes would ever get made. I go in with low expectastions. Still have yet to catch this one. Looks like a fun movie. I just go into it not thinking it is a GB remake but a whole new movie in itself
The title I have in mind for this one is Computer Monsters Vs. SNL Female Cast Members
If people want to talk "offensive" they should talk about how "offensive" the process of creating this movie was. How it went from numerous very creative states, but ended up being ignored because someone... probably a female executive at Sony, had a girl power moment and got it in their head that it should be an all female cast and then at a board meeting with one writer and 20 executive heads, came up with the outline.
For someone who feels focus of story and creativity should always come first with any narrative art form, this was "offensive" to me.
Well Transformers.... you've been outdone in the garbage category... congratulations.
