Very cool very cool.
Looking forward to this!
Do not read any spoilers, do not watch any spoiler videos, go into this movie as blind as you can be.
I actually had tears down my face at the end because of how fucking good it was.
People say TFA played it too safe, this felt 100% like a great SW movie while some how also feeling entirely different.
10 of fucking 10.
I'm definitely going to see this.
Seeing it tomorrow morning after work :2thumbs:
Very similar to what we saw with SW7, it seems people who grew up on the PT didnt care for it (and the arguments ive read are pretty stupid ones. Like the "mary sue" nonsense and other absurd things) but the people who grew up on the OT, seem to love it. Also, the old EU fans ive spoke with love it as well.
I saw it yesterday. So, so awful. Worst movie I've seen this year by far. Worst SW movie for sure.
It was better than Force Awakens, but tied with Rogue One for me. It's far from perfect, but a solid 8/10.
Positives:
Spoiler...
-Great editing and choreography, especially during action scenes
-Most of the story was fantastic. There were twists on twists. Just as you think Kylo could turn to the light, bam just wants Rey by his side while he becomes the new Supreme Leader. That was awesome.
-Mark Hamill was great. That scene towards the end with him and Kylo was brilliant.
-Light speed into a ship
-Kylo Ren. A lot of people hate this guy, but I think his character is brilliant. He is really becoming this menacing character. It's like two solid movies of character development for all these new characters and I think that's fantastic.
This is all going to lead to a huge fucking third film.
-Ending scene with the kid and the broom
Negatives:
Spoiler...
A lot of characters were useless to me. The entire plot point of Finn and whatsherface going to destroy the tracker was useless. That lead to literally nowhere. It actually ended up really hurting the rebellion. Phasma still has all this hype, but now that's two movies in a row where she does nothing. I know she is probably not dead. If that armor can make laser blasts bounce off, I doubt a fall and some fire will do anything. Poe needs to learn to calm the fuck down. I know he is supposed to be this off the rails hero, but him throwing temper tantrums because higher command won't tell him every little plan was kind of annoying.
-Some pacing issues. Especially in the Casino. I just didn't find that too interesting to me. Now that I know where it leads, it seems like that entire scene was completely pointless. With repeated viewings I'd be skipping it entirely.
Overall: 8/10. Some of the characters had nowhere to go and I felt that certain plot points were completely useless. Overall, better than Awakens, tied with Rogue One. Great film, but with repeated viewings, I'd be skipping some of the scenes.
Spoiler...A lot of people seem to be a bit bothered by the Finn scenes, i didnt mind them. It never took me out of the movie and it was necessary to the plot.
That said, there were a couple things that pissed me off but i cant hold it against the movie. Like, where that one lady hyperjumps the ship into the star destroyer... yah, in my prequel trilogy rewrite i have Anakin using that as a tactic.
The best description ive heard for the movie is: "It was like David Lynch made a Star Wars movie and then in editing Disney took over".
I may have to rethink my going to see this since I haven't kept up with this new storyline
Spot on DM! I saw it last night and thought it was brilliant. The only thing outside of what you already said that have an issue with is that there was still no explanation of who the hell Snoke is! In the end I don't think it matters, but his history would help put some pieces of the puzzle together.
BTW, Luke is bad-ass! Going to see it again next Friday. 9/10 for me
I'm thinking about going to see this later.
