I can see what you're saying about the dialogue, but it wasn't so bad that it turned me off

As far as the personas matching their roles, I sort of agree now that you brought it up. But for me it wasn't completely obvious to me as I watched it. BUt that seems to be the trend these days. Like Sandra Bullock in Gravity playing the reluctant, emotional astronaut. Because as we all know, most astronauts are hesitant about actually being astronauts.

In Sandra's defense, I think it was subtle but Bullock was referred to as a "mission specialist" which might make the conceit that she was part of the mission for her expertise and perhaps not a full fledged, experienced astronaut. NASA doesn't really work that way, at least not yet, but it's a common film/tv trope to put someone not necessarily qualified to be part of some highly specialized mission (ie. most of the cast of Armageddon, a civilian traveling along with some space marines, going down to a deep sea drilling rig, tagging along with Navy SEALs, etc.) because of some uber rare expertise where it's judged more expedient to give the specialist some basic training in...whatever...and put them in harm's way rather than train up a more prepared individual to have the necessary expertise in...whatever.

Prometheus makes use of this same trope only the majority of the crew don't come off as scientists much less deep space traveling scientists.

Yeah, the problems really only bother me if I stop and think about it rather than just watch. It's just a shame though because it has the basic building blocks of a great scifi film but it can't live up to its potential beyond expensive pop entertainment.

Lost Coast Tapes

Film crew goes into the woods to meet up with a guy who supposedly has evidence of a Bigfoot.

When I think about it, I'd have to say that this is my favorite shaky cam/lost footage movies. Not that it's a big accomplishment to be better than The Poughkeepsie Tapes or 8213: Gacy House, but it's a pretty entertaining flick all by itself. The most amazing thing about it is, it has pretty good pacing, which is really rare in these types of flicks. The guys and gal on the film crew are a bit overdramatic at times, but their characters are from Los Angeles, so it makes sense.
