I caught the Japanese version of One Missed Call last night. It was cool, and the ringtone reminded me of another Japanese horror film. But most of it reminded me of another Japanese horror film.
I didn't bother to think of it on a scale of 1 through 10 at the time, so I'll just default on this.

The Invasion - 7/10 - Like Ferrara's version was when released in early '94, this modern-day retelling of Jack Finney's classic sci-fi/horror hybrid story is receiving a whole lot of unfair bashings from critics and fans alike. Can't see the real reason though (other than a rushed third act w/ an overly optimistic ending). Kidman's performance is intriguing, as is current "Bond", Daniel Craig. The pacing is spot on with some rather effective suspense sequences thrown throughout the first and second acts. And the whole "viral" nature of the alien epidemic is a much appreciated departure from the "pod people" of the previous adaptations. Like it or not, the film is a product of its troubled times. A rather effective one at that. Isn't that the whole purpose of a Body Snatchers film?

Planet Terror 7/10
It would of been better if they cut the crap and had a hardcore gory kickass zombie movie.
(Nice tribute tho to the old Grindhouse movies, but I'd still rather a serious hardcore movie like I stated above. They had the budget and resources to make a deadly movie...but they fcked it up IMO)

The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari (1920) 9/10
I blind bought this movie and have to say that next to Nosferatu this is my favorite silent horror film. I love how the designs for the sets are kinda wild and distorted looking and how at night the movie would go from black and white to black and blue.

Well, I just endured "Cannibal Holocaust".
I'm speechless.
What a terrible film! Boring...how dreadfully boring. The same tired social commentary, bad acting, and FX that were truly awful, even by the standards of the 70's!
A total waste of time. Nothing shocking. Nothing repulsive or sickening. Just a really bad "grindhouse" style movie that has gotten more hype that it ever deserves. I'd let my Nana watch this one!
