Valhalla Rising (2009)
Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (the director of Pusher and Drive). Valhalla Rising is a strange, odd and different movie, when I finished watching it, I was a little baffled by the last part of the story, my first thought is: it is clear that there are things that I have overlooked, that what seems nonsense, isn't. But beyond that, as a purely visual experience, Valhalla Rising is a stunning film.

Ned Kelly (2003) - this is the only movie about Ned Kelly I've seen (I'm not including Reckless Kelly by Yahoo Serious ), I used to think he was just a bushranger but this film paints him as a folk hero.. interesting (apparently that's closer to the truth). Not great, but a decent movie.. "Such is life" 7/10

We had to do a huge paper on him in school. He is seen as a hero. And I understand that it was misfortune/an accident how things escalated the way they did, but he still 'x' amount of people. Police at that. I do think it's funny, I remember at school during a class discussion, I mainly to provoke argument, sided with calling him infamous. But when I said to them if someone was doing this today, wouldn't you want them stopped and brought to "justice".
You can look at it either way I guess. I'm off to Melbourne early next year, I'd love to see his armour!
Is that that Christmasish movie with the creepy lookin Santa's? I want to see it pretty badly looks pretty unique.

True.
I'm pretty sure the Worlds first feature length movie was an Australian made film on Ned Kelly actually. From what I remember not much of it is left intact. And it made Kelly out to be a pure evil cop killer. I think it was released when his mother was still alive. Or one of his sisters, not 100% which.

I still need to check this out. Supposedly this is the director's favorite in his own filmography. Having seen this, it might be worth checking out the short film that influenced (at least) the title of this movie, Lucifer Rising, directed by Kenneth Anger. Another couple of earlier films by Anger, Scorpio Rising and Kustom Kar Kommandos, strongly influenced the visual style of Drive, including the lead's iconic scorpion jacket. Thankfully, NWR is a much better director than Kenneth Anger, but there's still something interesting in their style if you can get passed the homoeroticism.
Lucifer Rising has a stellar acid funk soundtrack by Bobby Beausoleil who composed and performed the score while serving life in prison for being part of the Manson family murders.

This would make sense, at least in America, since until just before the dawn of the 20th Century, all well known people were either outlaws or politicians. It wasn't until the 1890s when John Sullivan, the "Boston Strong Boy", became the first heavyweight champ and toured the country that kids had any kind of semi-positive celebrity in the press.

Thanks for the tip about Lucifer Rising, I like the style that implements Nicolas in his films, (though I haven't seen all of his films), but inevitably leads me to be anxious about what will be his new film Only God Forgives to release next year.
Apparently in this new film the main character from Valhalla Rising will make a presentation here too. How this supposed transition or special apparition will take place? The doubt gnaws at my brain.
