Beyond The Black Rainbow - Visually it was gorgeous and just awesome. There were some fantastic images to be had and somewhere in there was a really solid film. The problem was that it was bloated by its visual style and a lack of plot. A 30-40 minute plot dragged on for over 100 minutes held together by the visual flare. Its a shame because it was a really nicely put together film aside from the weak writing that really dragged it down. I'll give it a 6.5/10 with a more generous day giving it a 7.

Just watched Sound of My Voice. It's not a great film, but interesting enough to make you finish. Basic plot: A journalist and his girlfriend get pulled in while they investigate a cult whose leader claims to be from the future.

A truly fantastic film. One of Lang's best, and a top tier film noir.

If you don't have it, I highly recommend picking up the two-CD "soundtrack" that's actually mostly running dialogue from the film. It's like "The Story of Star Wars" I had as a kid. I'd routinely go to sleep with a tape recorder under my pillow playing this, listening to the movie and picturing it in my head.

The Apocalypse Now discs are even better (no narrator). I'll pop it in if I'm doing non-verbal work at the computer, animation or image processing and compositing, or if I'm on a road trip. Makes time effortlessly flow by while you picture the movie in your head and listen to the dialogue.

Skyfall - 10/10

Easily belongs up there with the greats of the series, and it had quite a few throwback moments to the Connery days. Stunning cinematography, as expected from Deakins, perfectly paced as well as stylish direction from Mendes and Bardem makes such an amazing villain. I also liked the addition of Ralph Fiennes, he's always a pleasure to watch. Great Bond film, I'll probably be watching it again soon.

It is well known that Bardem usually makes good performances as a villain, but I have heard that his performance here is superb, bordering on perfection.

I have wanted to see Skyfall just for that fact.
