Great seeing this is BluRay! I have a soft spot for this being a huge fan of most of the games, I do think the movie is a well done fun flick. Goro still looks absolutely amazing, there are some scenes where is is a bit stiff, but others where he just looks full blown real. Great to see he holds up. Transfer was pretty nice too.
    Great reviews.

Great seeing it on BluRay with a decent transfer. I hate to say it, but the CGI is begining to age. It has held up very, very well for a 16 year old or so movie. Some scenes still look great but others are starting to look a bit tacky. It doesn't take too much away from the feel. I've always had a soft spot for this flick. Some new features would have been nice.
I always thought the swarm of bugs attacking the outpost looked awesome and it still holds up extremely well.

That scene still does look great. I believe they used Wire Frame CGI or something. I forget it exactly but I remember a pretty indepth thing about it on the DVD. A lot of the film still holds up, there are just a few scenes where it looks dated. It's going to happen to everything CGI at the end of the day.

Well, you have to convince those not living in this cozy existence that their and their neighbor's lives are worth more than their culture affords them. Western culture has what it has by taking. History is full of examples of cultures who finally decided to stop being the battered wife who stayed with their abusive husband. It's lacking in examples of benevolent societies riding in on a white horse to the rescue, then move on to the next with the liberated then miraculously prospering because all they needed was the chance to really make a go of it and find their own worth without an outside force pushing them to be this or that, thanks to a different outside force.

All of the bug attacks were CGI and this film is a prime example of stuff that couldn't have been done any other way. Both the night and day scenes hold up very well though the rendering is aided by capitalizing on insect exoskeletons being very plastic by nature anyhow. Still, over a decade later, you see the difference here between real artists who can make a plastic bug look like it was actually photographed in the scene versus the stuff that ends up on SyFy made by folks that can't even do convincing looking plastic.

You can tell the practical bug props because they don't move like they're alive.

The CGI bugs move like they're alive because they were animated by the talented, stop-motion-turned-CG animators of Tippet Studio. It should have won the year it was up for the Oscar but everyone had Titanic fever.

It's holding up better than the CGI in Raimi's first Spider-Man film. The CG there looks cheesy and dated.

Fucking oath. Kubrick could just attack an audience on a psychological level. He was simply amazing.

Agreed. It's a marvellous achievement. I think it was such a copout that it didn't win.

True that, I remember the last time I watched Spider-Man I was just thinking "Wow, that looks like ass now." Not once does that come to mind in Starship Troopers. There are a few scenes that look a little dated, and I mean a little, but you're never sitting there going "I can't believe I thought this used to look good."

I think Raimi's first Spider-Man is terrible in general. Poor casting with Maiguire and Dunst, horrible FX work, ultra cheesy dialogue. Dafoe is clearly having a blast. It's just too bad he's dressed up as a retarded power ranger.

Starship Troopers was one of the coolest films I saw as a kid in the 90's and it's still a badass flick. I'd love for Verhoeven to make another flick like that, Total Recall or Robocop. I don't care what anyone says about it but I fucking loved Hollow Man, though. Kevin Bacon as an invisible man raping chicks and sucking on titties? FTW in my book.

The BluRay of this is utterly stunning. I was not expecting such an amazing transfer. If you're a fan of this (lets face it, anyone who isn't just isn't human) you need to get this!

Although at times the movie hints at bottom a social complaint alleged, is lost on the road in my opinion because they do not delves into causes or consequences.

And everything is reduced simply to the adventures of a spoiled serbia teen, drugs and sex. It is true that the sex scenes are explicit and that gives extra spice and more crude, but beyond that there is not much more.
