RED STATE
**** of *****
...I finally checked it out. I have to admit, when I heard of the possibility he might make a Clerks 3 I was like, "sure, I'll see it," but now that would just make me sad. I don't know why he would want to go back to those films having made Red State. I wouldn't have ever guessed he had this kind of film in him. I more or less judged all his previous films based on mostly an exclusive scale of better or worse "Kevin Smith Films", like they were their own genre of one. It just didn't seem fair to place them in a more general context, for all sorts of reasons. This film though needs no special treatment, no caveats. It's just good.
I'm still in shock.

Like, so many people out there were trying to track this down. And it just...got delivered on a tweet. What the hell.
"The individual's rights will be protected only so long as they don't conflict with the state."
“Watch your thoughts, they become words;
watch your words, they become actions;
watch your actions, they become habits;
watch your habits, they become character;
watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

Much as I love Wrath of Khan, this is the only ST movie that really looks like a movie aught to look like. It has the highest level of production design on interiors and miniatures and the best photography. It's the only one to really get the "self-illumination" look on the Enterprise in deep space right, much less attempt it. The others feature mostly magical light with no motivation to go along with the expected magic gravity with no motivation.
This one lives up to its subtitle "The Motion Picture".
