'The World's End' - was great until the half hour mark when it suddenly turned into a sci fi film. I'd have far preferred a straight character study drama but it was okayish. 6/10

Not bad at all. Not great but definitely not bad. After re-watching the HBO doc after seeing the movie, I think he was played a little too stoic but there's some picture in there where, wow, they really recreated the look. I can see why they left out the parts of his story that would have made him completely un-relatable and un-likable. They essentially had to manipulate the audience, through lies of omission. That said, it's a movie so, as a movie, you don't have to know anything about who it's based on to still find it compelling. There's nothing likable or relatable about the real guy except that he's surprisingly charming.

I'm very fascinated by the lifestyles of the Beats. Have read a ton of books and personally find it to be one of the coolest era's ever. So I was a bit apprehensive of this movie. No where near as good as the book, but a great attempt. Hopefully it will peak the interest of others into the Beat generation.
