It made me feel bad most of the time for Sandra Bullock. "Try hard" was the overall feeling. It was so forced and contrived. A few times I couldn't help myself but laugh but overall I found McCarthy's character absurd, unlikable and most of the film this bizarro, self-hating feminist rant. It's hard to like Danny McBride when he does this character.

The difference is when he plays the unlikable douche nozzle comic absurdity within a comic absurdity he's not being positioned as a sympathetic protagonist or an ideal. Everyone is in on the joke that he represents an awful person. This film made the opposite assumption with McCarthy's character who pushes a more ideal, though still likably flawed character, to be more obnoxious. All those around them were simply incompetent or even less likable. Kinda like how Williamson made his "evil genius" in The Following seem smart...make all the other characters just more dumb and hope nobody notices.

I just wanted it to be over after the opening scene with Kripke. It telegraphed what we were going to be in for. It does make me wonder, though, if that's how stupid all the cop buddy movies come off to girlfriends and wives.

This Island Earth (1955) - I'm a fan of a lot of 50s sci-fi flicks, but I found this incredibly boring. The special effects weren't that great, either (compared to Forbidden Planet).

Its sad how such pathetic shit can make people famous.

I found it fascinating, especially considering how ultimately pointless, beyond morbid entertainment, Super Size Me was. Taken as a pair, it's significant that by about the middle of each film both stunt filmmakers were having a hard time keeping their chin up with the idea they'd started and were having a rough go of it.

The health aspect was also revealing. This film in a "hmmm" sort of way and the McDonalds film in a "duh!" sort of way. Also, odds are a lot of people who saw Super High Me were already aware of the comedian. Nobody knew or cared about who Spurlock was and his burger film launched a career of questionable infotainment, none of which has been very significant.
