    Army of Darkness (Major Spoilers)

So I was watching Raimi's directors cut and I cant tell you how much different the ending is between the one I usually see and the directors cut. I was kinda pissed at the directors cut DVD because it didn't even have the theatre one on it. Anyway here are the different endings.

Theatre* Ash is transported back to S-Mart where he finds a deadite terroizing shoppers and he kills it and says the famous line " Hail to the King Baby"

Directors Cut* Ash is taken a potion so that he can sleep past all the centuries into present time. Of course he drinks to much of the potion and awakens to find a deserted London city. It ends abruptly.

This one really pissed me off some reason, it seemed really rushed like they wanted another ending "just in case".

So who else has seen this directors cut and is with me on the horrible ending.

Wasn't the Dir Cut ending made before the other one? Not sure though.

Yes the post apocalyptic ending is the original ending, the S-Mart ending was made because the studio didn't like the original one because it was too much a downer so Raimi had to make a "happier" ending.

Just what I was thinking. The S-Mart "Happy" ending does it's job, it makes me feel better for Ash but knowing that Rami was, for lack of a better word, force to make it... it feels wrong to like that over the orginal.

the "happy" ending has Ash shooting the gun about 30 times without reloading, so yeah, its a fuck load better.

Both endings are good for what they are. The post-apocalyptic one is good because that is more in tune with the Ash character, and the S-Mart is good just for Ash delivering the line "hail to the king, baby" after shooting up a deadite.

What I recall was that after part 2, the Evil Dead series was supposed to start going in different directions. The Medieval movie was Army of Darkness, then a Post-Apocalyptic future. It wasn't a "just in case" matter, but where they apparently had hoped to put the forth movie.

S-Mart, on top of genuinely being the rushed ending, also really hurt any chances of the fourth movie happening.

I don't see how the S-Mart ending ruined the chances of a sequel. While Ash fighting deadites in the future would have been a much better movie, I think with the deadite being in S-Mart that could have lead to the 4th movie dealing with the town being overrun. But like you said, that clearly isn't what Raimi and crew had in mind for the series.

Well they dont really need an ending to set up another movie. In Evil Dead II it doesn't even seem that any of the previous events happen from the first one. Why would he go back to the cabin. Now that I thought about it the directors cut ending is sinkin in to me a little more, but I still like the S-Mart one more. I think Raimi can make a good Evil Dead movie anywhere, anytime.

Alot of that problem stems from the fact that Raimi couldn't get the rights to use the footage from the first movie so they had to sort of re-do the entire first movie in the beginning of 2. I believe its where Ash is getting carried through the woods and turns into a deadite is where part 2 actually begins.

I am kinda of curious about that fan edit that's floating around the internet where somebody cut all 3 movies together.
