    Editing software.

I use Sony Vegas, I also use Final Cut Pro (When I'm at school) what do you guys use. Anyone here use Avid Xpress Pro before? What is it like compared to Vegas and FCP? I've been thinking about picking up Avid Xpress Pro. Just wondering what you guys use and what you like about each one.

Avid is the worst thing in the world...ever

Premier and final cut are good after affects pretty much allows you to do whatever you want

I like Avid, i use xpress pro and media composer and I guess since that is what I was taught on i like it better than other editing software. FCP has too many limitations for me compared to avid

    any examples you could use?

I just think avid is so non user friendly it just got on my nerves FCP is much easier to use, I don't really see anythings that it can't do that Avid can do.

I'm most familiar with Final Cut Pro but most people in the business swear by Avid. I guess it just depends what type of editing you're doing.

I took a class on editing recently, it was sponsored by apple so I am sure there are some biases, but I learned how to use FCP. They guy told us about Avid and said it was just as good as FCP but that unless you have all the right things for your PC you won't be able to use it completely, and to order all of those extra parts can be expensive.

I can only afford to download the premier free trial and hopefully find an un-used code somewhere.

But I must say, when I used FCP it was just so amazing how simple and easy to use everything was, especially when I learned the hot keys and what not.

Okay, first the setup. Sometimes people say things like this out of sheer elitism or snobbery. Like, I can afford to use what all the cool people use, so I'm voting for our collective favorite. Assimilate or be scorned. This is based off personal research (as in, I got that Cyberlink program with my capture card and my cheap ass even tried to use that), and at least vague knowledge of these applications.

Everything mentioned so far is more powerful than Cyberlink Power Producer.

The most powerful of these applications have two downsides: their price, and the (apparent) learning curve.

I shelled out the cash for Vegas. There is no way I am looking to be a true power user, and Vegas had the features that I need. Bonus points came from it natively supporting a lot of the same audio effects I already use for music. I'll be blunt, too. I don't like ACID, but a program that works like music sequencing software to edit video was just about perfect for me.

Now for the requisite type: I enjoy music at home and was looking to expand that music into video projects. Youtube, maybe public access, or maybe just expand into new ways of making art.

Well I actually got my cyberlink through a torrent:nod: Fucking expensive shit

So everything mentioned here is user-friendly? I'm thinking of starting a career in video editing.

$70 isn't really that expensive for any kind of media production software. Looking at the features you get, though, they are probably charging about twice what the program is worth.

If you're looking at a career then Cyberlink isn't for you. Aside from that, listen to some of the other people here. The filmmaking students and people with more practical experience no doubt have more insight into the programs you will need to know in order to get a job in your chosen field.

You will also probably need education and some practical experience of your own.

Damn didn't think it was $70, last I checked I seen it for $800. But I guess it was because I was in a hurry to dl a video editing software and I needed one for school. So I didn't have time to look around so I just searched "best".

But, after watching a few videos, FCP seems like the way to go.

Thing about Avid is that you have to build your computer around it.,you will not buy a computer from a store and run it perfectly thats for sure. Avid does also have a steep learning curve. I have taken a few classes on it so i know it far better than the few times i used FCP. FCP is more pick up and go user friendly. It doesn't have all the menus and such as Avid but still a worthy editing software but a professor at my university put it best when asked which is better FCP or Avid he said, "I'm an editor, I could edit with two turds and a pocket knife."

Avid is good. Final Cut is good. They both have problems that will force people in one direction or the other. No reason to use anything other than these two if you are serious about editing.

I learned on Avid at my school, and I am partial to that. Anyway it depends what you need, you can use both, and other programs as well. But it depends what you need. There are 50,000 dollar avid programs out there that they use, but I am pretty sure you don't need them.

    I'm crying a river 36... lol

In school I used Premier Pro 1 & 2, photoshop and had pretty high-tech cameras at my arms reach but now all I got is Window's movie maker and decent digital camera. At first Movie Maker killed me cause of the lack of features and things you could do but once you tinker with it, it's ok. Enough to make some youtube videos with and fuck for fucking around.
