    It's Just a Remake

Some of the remakes I've seen of recent horror films have been pretty awesome, what more, even better than the original.* It's not the end of the world to tamper with classics, I mean, it's not as if the classic is going to be thrown into the lake that burns with fire brimestone & never to be heard from again. Or like Nazis going door to door, or in this time, Republicans, samething, anyway, it's not like they're going door to door making you give up the classic & forcing the remake on one. I'm pro remakes, some are stupid, yes but most are good.* I am a huge Halloween fan, not enough to dress like him or walk my neighborhood w/a kitchen knife but huge nonetheless & when I saw Rob Zombie's Halloween, it blew me away. It was great. Fantastic~!* I read all these angry posts about people simply offended about remakes. But it's all good gangsta', it's just a remake. Frankly I'm more upset about movies that haven't been remade like Gremlins.* Looking back at that POS, I am really considering writing the movie studio about that. Some remakes are funny to me, like possibly CHUD or Child's Play.* ha ha ha...... CHUD.* Dumb movie anyway. So who cares. I'll watch it. I survived the 80's, I can survive our futuristic hip & happening remakes.* After all, it's just a remake.

Yeah I kinda agree with you. There are some remakes that was really good like The Hills have eyes. The old version was boring as hell, but the remake it was a lot better.

I have nothing against remakes in principal, its that people continue to pay money to go see shitty ones, and thus more shitty remakes are released. "But it's all good gangsta'. "

Sometimes we are treated to a good remake. Sadly however we are treated to more shite remakes then good ones.

I've only seen a few horror remakes that I've liked, but aside from 'Hills', haven't topped the oirignals. The majority of horror remakes are just plain a waste of time.

2004's Hitcher made me wanna slap the woman next to me.

Hills Have Eyes seemed like it was trying too hard to be extremely intense, but it was still great.

Halloween, standing on its own, was very good. In comparison to Carpenter's...well, that really can't happen.

2004's Dawn of the Dead was excellent, but nothing at all like the original.

I think the worst remake I've ever seen of a horror movie - and which is also one of the worst movies I've ever seen - was the early 90s remake of Night of the Living Dead.

I loved the TCM remake too but I heard the prequel was terrible - haven't seen it yet though, so can't say for myself. What did you think?

I'm one of the few who loves remakes, well most of them. If they're entertaining, I'll love them. Here's a list of my favourite remakes:

    The Hitcher
    The Hills Have Eyes
    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    Dawn Of The Dead

I didn't see "Halloween" yet, but I'm going to buy the DVD once released because I know I'll love it.

Resisting the urge to verbally assault you for using the term 'gangsta', I'll keep this simple. Remakes in general are fine and all, remakes of non-horror classics tend to do rather well matter of fact.

However, in regards to horror remakes... the general census is that these new directors are merely trying to cash in on a good name at the cost of the name. Don't get me wrong, there are a few WELL DONE horror remakes out there (I won't try naming any to avoid further arguments). However, most agree that the majority were merely half-ass work riding on the coat tails of its namesake.

All for remaking classics, but somehow some of these dolt directors are not giving the term classic what it deserves with the remakes. Feels more like they are approaching it like a remake of some straight to DvD film, which is what turns most horror folks away from the remake idea at all...
