Sometimes we are treated to a good remake. Sadly however we are treated to more shite remakes then good ones.

I agree --- there are so many shit remakes, and so few good ones.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, and Holloween were the only remakes I liked. No one has talked about this yet, but what the hell is with all the remakes of CURRENT Japanese horror movies. The Ring, The Grudge, The Eye, Pulse. There's a supposed remake of Tale of Two Sisters coming out. These remakes ( although i liked the ring and the grudge) are more upsetting to me than remakes of American movies. It seems although Hollywood is trying to pass these movies off as their own and really if it wasn't for the employees at the video stores being smart enough to place the original next to the new one on the shelf I don't think most people would know that these movies are remakes. Its borderline plagiarism.

Agreed. This unimaginative trend of 'Americanizing' RECENT films is rather disappointing. There is nothing wrong with the originals besides the "oooo, subtitles, screw you!" mindset the general theater going crowd has. Nothing against most of these 'remakes', some are rather decent. But can't these folks find something better to remake besides a fresh released film that they saw on a business trip to Japan?

The few remakes I like that come to mind are The Fly,The Blob,The NOTLD 1990,The Hills have Eyes and the The Thing(I know it's not really a remake).

By far the worst remake for me,compared to the original would be Dawn of the Dead.

Horrid remake, Superman, The Hulk & remember the sooner forgotten; Willard. Although Willard was great because it gave us all one more opportunity to fully grasp the truth; Crispin Glover is creepy for real.

Some of the remakes I've seen of recent horror films have been pretty awesome, what more, even better than the original.* It's not the end of the world to tamper with classics, I mean, it's not as if the classic is going to be thrown into the lake that burns with fire brimestone & never to be heard from again. Or like Nazis going door to door, or in this time, Republicans, samething, anyway, it's not like they're going door to door making you give up the classic & forcing the remake on one. I'm pro remakes, some are stupid, yes but most are good.* I am a huge Halloween fan, not enough to dress like him or walk my neighborhood w/a kitchen knife but huge nonetheless & when I saw Rob Zombie's Halloween, it blew me away. It was great. Fantastic~!* I read all these angry posts about people simply offended about remakes. But it's all good gangsta', it's just a remake. Frankly I'm more upset about movies that haven't been remade like Gremlins.* Looking back at that POS, I am really considering writing the movie studio about that. Some remakes are funny to me, like possibly CHUD or Child's Play.* ha ha ha...... CHUD.* Dumb movie anyway. So who cares. I'll watch it. At first when I looked at this post...I saw how big and un-structured it was...and I contemplated not reading it. Then as I glanced through it, I saw "Rob Zombie's Halloween" and "blew" and thought, well, maybe this guy isn't so bad....then when I saw the context and read it as it was.."Rob Zombie's Halloween blew me away" I knew it was something I needed to skip.....wow, thanks for letting me know to ignore any further posts from someone who Loves the blood of a guy named Vic.

p.s. for someone who "luvs" *nudge nudge* his remakes....you should probably know that Superman Returns was in fact a sequel to the original series. It's more of a restart to the series beginning after 2, rather then a remake of 3. Very similar situaion in the Halloween series...H20 takes place after 2, as if 3-6 never happened....however it's not considered a remake of 3 (Or 4 if you wanna be techincal)

Upset at the usage of the word 'gangsta'? No. But using words like that do put that verbal 'kick me' sign on your back 'fool'... On that point, bravo ignoring everything else mentioned and focusing solely on that one statement. Really sticking that sign on good, huh?

Please stop being an idiot and at least come to terms with what films are remakes and which are dated sequals. No one will take you serious if you are bashing remakes but list sequals as example. Thats like bashing slasher films then listing the grudge as an example.

Carying on... Didn't like HoHH's ending either, but I've seen worse overall. The sequal didn't do much to redeem the name. Once again, slackass attempts to cash in on the namesakes...

IMO, it depends on the filmmakers intentions with the film. If they are looking to capitalize on the name and simply rely on that to carry a film, it will suck (Hitcher, Halloween, Grudge, The Omen, etc.) If the filmmakers are trying to make a film almost as a tribute to the original, not necessarily focusing on a complete remake but adding elements with originality, a fan's method of creating a remake, it will be a decent honor to the movie (Dawn of the Dead, MBV3D, Hills Have Eyes, etc.).

look I don't think most people would be against a remake here and there. The problem is they are now the ONLY type of horror movie Hollywood is willing to drop cash on because they don't want to take a chance on something that doesn't have a built-in audience.

Remakes are ruining horror - That's why I hate them.

I'll give you TCM and the prequel. not bad over-all. Dawn of the Dead remake was ok, but now EVERY single classic is being whored out for some quick cash. You only need to watch The Fog to understand what kind of dire straight the horror scene is in these days.
