Got bored last night and this came on showtime so I figured what the hell. I expected absolutly nothing from it and I'm glad thats how I went in. Cuz god this movie was stupid. It could have been a good flick had it been rated R and takin a bit more seriously. I mean I know that sounds funny for a movie based on a killer video game. But atleast they could have worked the FX and the lighting and all that stuff to make it a creepy film. But if you really think about it is a bit ridiculous. Elizabeth Bathory for some reason comes back as a ghost and is controlling a video game? ok....
And I'm not one that thinks all horror needs an R rating. Hell I've seen a lot of R rated horror from back in the day that didn't deserve the rating it got. And a lot of the black and white stuff is great the way it is. But this film I think needed it because it seemed like it was prety edited to get its PG-13. I couldnt suspend my belief enough to enjoy this movie. The cops come to raid their apartment and so they climb out the window out the fire escape and the cops outside never notice them coming from the one place the other officers are going into? That was laughuably bad. And the FX. Oh god how dumb. Why on earth did the ghosts in the "real" world look just like the ghosts from the game. Game graphics look good in a GAME, not when spliced with live action. It looked really really stupid. And good lord was this thing predictable. I new 5 minutes into this movie what the final scene in this flick was gonna be, and I was right. Could have been a brainless fun movie if nothing else. But they had to dumb it down and it just turned out really really bad. If you've stayed away from this movie this long then theres no reason to change that now.
