So, after enjoying the sequel, I thought I would go back and revisit the original. I remember liking it when I saw it and thought I would re-watch it to see if I could discover some new things. I must say that upon revisiting it I was pleasantly suprised by a few things. Specifically 2 performances. Desmond Harrington first of all amazes me. I know this performance could come off as dry or boring, but I really think he gave that character many layers of personality, but kept them at surface level. I am sure giving a restrained performance in the horror genre is a difficult thing to do, but he did it beautifully. Second of course is Eliza Dushku who in this film was one of my favorite heroines of the genre. Notice that she ony screams a couple of times in the movie. She is all business all the time and I love that about that character. You can also see the guilt she feels all over her face throughout the picture and never discover it until the waterfall scene. Beautiful job all around. Kick ass movie.
