Any Given Sunday & Gridiron Gang

Caught these two football flicks recently and thought they were both good, however, I didn't like Any Given Sunday as much as I thought I would. Although there are a lot of good performances, I was bored by a lot of the scenes. Gridiron Gang was a surprisingly enjoyable and heart-filled film, despite it being incredibly predictable. Both flicks get 7/10 from me.

AGS was OK. I liked GG a little more too.

I haven't seen Any Given Sunday in years but I remember it being good. Also really liked Gridiron Gang. I still say Remember the Titans is the best football movie IMO.

    Both were good.

Some people criticize AGS for being more of a music video than a football movie when in the end, I think Olivers touch with this film was part of that aspect in having music blend with videos and the characters alike. Performances all around were good. Overall, a pretty overlooked film of the 90s even with its cast and backing involved IMO.

GG is indoubtebly the Rock's best movie bar none IMO. Sure it was predictable but the gritty performances all around were well done IMO. People who dont like this movie say the Rock is better off as a supporting character in comedic movies nevertheless I thought he was good in this and he should do more dramatic roles. Comedy can only go so far.

See Jim Carrey IMO. Good actor but its gets old after awhile IMO.

    Damn straight! loved it.

I've only seen GG, it was cool, probably wouldn't watch it a second time though.

AGS is far better than GG. "Friday Night Lights" is also far superior to GG. GG was average, just like "Invincible". "Titans" was enjoyable, but a lot of that is due to the great music throughout.

    Other football greats:
The Longest Yard (original...new one blows)
    North Dallas Forty
    and yes Mike, Wildcats.

I try to stay away from the 'inspirational, you can do it if you just try!' BS football movies like 'Friday Night Lights' and 'Remember the Titans'.

AGS is a standout because it deals more with the ruthless business aspect of professional sports as opposed to being yet another dime a dozen underdog story.

'Playmakers' was a damned good series as well on par with any of the movies listed. Too bad the NFL had to lay down the iron fist and robbed us all of a great show.

Saw Remember the Titans earlier -- good movie, but it definitely gets cheesy, especially towards the end. I guess that's to be expected from a Disney flick.

    7/10

So far Friday Night Lights is my fav. football-related movie from what I've seen recently.
