This is supposed to be a shot-for-shot remake, so if you see the original then you've already seen the remake, and vice versa.

I didn't know this was a remake either, but I don't think I'll see it if it's a verbatum remake. I think Phillip Roth is kind of underrated as an actor, you don't see him much, I'm glad he's in a movie like this.
But yeah, looks really interesting. First saw the trailer before I'm Not There along with trailers for a bunch of other indie movies, I didn't think this would be getting a national release.

No offense...but I see you complain a lot about endings on here. Think of the most unHollywood ending you could possibly have and this movie has it. The movie is an extreme satire on violence in the media and isn't just some mindless horror/torture flick. It's a damned good film, but not really what you would call an entertaining or pleasant watch.

Agreed. I just have a feeling the MPAA is going to make the director change the ending and that would suck, in my opinion. I'm not going to bother with the shot for shot remake - I believe Americans need to learn to read subtitles and quit remaking everything. It's such a waste of film to do a shot for shot remake. I love the original - great flick, but definitely not an easy watch. This one will be attacked and beated harshly by the MPAA and American audiences are going to have to wait for the unrated DVD to get the full effect. That's my prediction anyway.

OK, so I just got back from this. I'm not sure why Haneke felt the need to remake it. I heard everyone say it was a shot by shot remake, but I was certain that they were going to change something. They didn't (aside from cutting the drawnout length in certain parts).

The acting was good and the story is still effective. From what I can tell, the same house was used, same props, wardrobe, ect. A local writer here said it looked like the new actors were just digitally edited into the original film and he's right.

Basically, if you've seen the original, just rent this if you're interested in seeing how the new cast does with an old script. However, if you love hearing ghetto, dumbass Americans go "What the hell?" and "This is stupid, it doesn't make sense" and "I don't get it." then go see this for sure.

Not sure why anyone would revel in the fact that the majority of their fellow movie-going countrymen are a bunch of simple-minded dolts. In fact it's quite sad and embarrassing.

If Heneke really did think the majority of movie-goers over here would 'get' his film and it's messages then perhaps he isn't as smart as he obviously thinks he is.
