still haven't gotten around to seeing that one.

One of JC's that stands out as an example of his alternate/double doing flicks in the parallel bizzaro universe is Prince Of Darkness.
Didn't care for it years ago when first seen. Mainly because i was a sprite and didn't get what shite he was shoveling. Today i'm still not sure that i completely get what groove JC was sunk into and rolling along on, but i have developed a deeper appreciation for POD, and kind of find myself fascinated by the flick. Why? dunno really.

Rewatched Christine recently and find this highly underrated. B-movie concept but brings the A-game on every level.

And that car is so badass. I want one.

Reading back on this thread it really makes you appreciate Carpenter, just look at how many people prefer one of his horror movies over another. That type of variety, yet consistency of quality is beyond impressive.

Gotta wonder what the fuck actually happened to him though. Most of his movies are good to great and I am unsure where he started to not give a shit. Even his take on the BTILC remake is something to roll your eyes at.

As for Carpenter, though, he doesn’t seem to care about the Big Trouble In Little China remake one way or another…but, like, in a cool way. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Carpenter said that he hasn’t “spoken to Dwayne Johnson about any of this” and that, in general, he’s “ambivalent about a remake.” However, he could care about it, depending on “how much they pay [him].

He went from taking great care in making flicks to practically waiting around until someone decides they want to remake one so he can get paid (hopefully no more offers from RZ). I guess he is just at that point in life where he doesn't have the ambition to do things on his own anymore? I mean that is the vibe I got from The Ward, that movie is awful. It felt like he filmed that just because and to get a paycheck. There is absolutely no passion or effort put into that flick at all.

Historic horror career that has given us icons and iconic moments in the horror genre. But I believe the best days for him are staying way in the past.

I watched The Ward the other night and it's not a bad movie, just average compared to Carpenter's earlier work. I don't think Carpenter has ever made a bad movie..

What about Ghosts of Mars? It's been a long time since I've viewed the film but from what I remember... it was a piece of dog poop.

It's not dog poop at all. My main criticism is the pacing. But I love the setting/atmosphere that Carpenter brings to it. The actors could have been better as well, but I don't think it's a bad movie. Just not as good as some of his earlier works.

I'll have to give it another go, I guess. Like I said in the post above, it's been a long time since I've watched it. Probably at least a decade.
