The state of modern DTV

So, I have Netflix, but just ran over to Blockbuster tonight to see if they had anything good for sale used...(picked up TCM The Beginning for $3.00 woohoo) So anyways, I perused the New Releases to see what was out and I was so shocked to see all the horror that's been coming out. Problem is, I am terrified of getting any of them. So, I made a list...came home and checked out my list on IMDB and NOT ONE MOVIE was rated over a 4. I am so bummed over modern day DTV. I just wish horror fans were making horror movies and not young independent directors looking to use the genre to score a resume credit. The state of DTV has been and looks like it will always be in the toilet.

All DTV and quite good. But I agree, there's alot of crap out there. But there have to be crappy horror movies...that's just the way it is. Sure look at the 80's, plenty of crap released, but kids today are discovering them and loving it. In about 15 years kids will discover the crap that's being released DTV now and probably fall in love with it. Its a vicious cycle.

With today's constant advancing technology, it's easy just to simply buy a camera and make a movie, especially with horrible companies like The Asylum producing and releasing anything.

Horror is apparently cheaper to make than most kinds of films. As long as you have some ketchup packets and a hammer, you can save money on scripts and actors.

DTV horror has always been like this.

There's always gonna be bad and good DTV horror films or just DTV in general but you have to weed them out. It's just your best bet to rent them from netflix since you have that it's what i do with pretty much most of films i dont know or haven't heard of before.

I can't believe you bought TCM used for $3!!! They have the Blockbuster number written in permanent marker on the disc and a weird case with stickers on it!

Shoulda just bought it new for $10.

I dont mind picking up some crappy dtv when DDDVD had a sale or something, and sometimes u find a gem in there.

The actual film quality is generally higher, because the equipment is much cheaper. The quality of the movies is probably just as hit and miss.

There has always been a high ratio of bad to good DTV horror movies since the 80's, more DTV horror films are available because (like Luris) stated how cheap it is to make one these days. Since there are more of them being made and readily available these days it just appears to be worse.
