I don't understand it, everyone complains about the dialogue in Death Proof, but Tarantino is known for his extensive dialogue scenes. If you knew it was a Tarantino flick, why did you watch it?

    I don't hate Tarantino.

Just figured we'd get a bit more than what the final product was.

    IMO.

Because it isn't focused character driven dialogue like in his other films. It's just four girls babbling incessantly about inane shit. It's not like the opening of Reservoir Dogs. It comes off as bad improv.

I haven't seen Grindhouse since it was in theaters.

Planet Terror was a much more entertaining movie, but it didn't feel like a low budget flick. It looked like an expensive film that was ran through a bunch of filters to make it look aged and worn.

Death Proof had a better look an attention to detail to appear amateurish; visible sprinklers during rain, very fake blood on windshield during the chase, etc. Even the weird transition felt appropriate, considering a lot of cheapo movies were made by splicing together any salvageable footage.

That said, Death Proof was an incredibly dull movie.

I have to go with this line of thinking. Death Proof actually seemed like an old exploitation flick: disjointed plot, everything choptop mentioned. And that's Tarantino's area of expertise. It wasn't great, but it was certainly more 'grindhouse' than Planet Terror.

There's a reason why they don't make 70's exploitation style movies anymore, most of them just aren't that good. Deathproof came off like a girl power movie. I like his dialogue but it was boring, inane chatter this time around.

Def looking forward to seeing Inglorious Bastards.

When it comes to Grindhouse - I enjoy both films, but each fits a different mood for me. When I want some good, mindless, gory fun I put in "Planet Terror", if I want a more girl-power film, I pop in "Death Proof". As far as Death Proof goes, I did find some of the dialogue annoying, but some of it did pertain to the characters. I liked the first half, but I only really liked the Brunette chick who did the lap dance...I forgot her name. Jungle Julia was annoying to me. I thought she was a conceited bitch...sorry. I preferred the girls in the second half of the film. They acted like natural friends who teased one another, but weren't mean. I also liked how strong and fun they were. Plus, the car chase kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved how the girls took out Kurt Russell in the end...but I didn't like that he turned into a blubbering baby. I think the ending would have been even better if he was fighting back and they still whooped his ass.

I really dug Death Proof. When I first saw it I was kind of bored but upon subsequent viewings I've truly come to appreciate it. It's not a horror movie. It's definitely a thriller/comedy and it works because of the dialogue. I've read a lot of criticisms of the Tarantino written word, but I think some of the stuff in Death Proof is the best he's done.

tarantino isnt overrated at all, hes done two classics in reservoir dogs and pulp fiction, and not to mention he wrote true romance. The Kill Bill movies are awesome and Inglourious Basterds was the best movie i saw this year. I havent seen Jackie Brown but have heard nothing but good things about it, Although Death Proof is probably his poorest effort its far from being bad

That was the one part of the film that really annoyed me. I mean, this guy gets into car wrecks intentionally, and he gets shot in the arm, and hes crying like a little girl. Just seemed alittle dumb to me.

I like PT better as well. I had the opposite expectations going into it but I really thought PT was a lot of fun. I also watched the DVD with the audience reactions audio and that was great!
