Okay, tell me if this makes sense. As far as the two whole movies are corncerned, I liked Planet Terror better than Death Proof. But! I like the first half of Death Proof better than all of Planet Terror. :wideeye:
I'm just kind of wondering if anyone else feels the way I do. Basically I see Death Proof in two different parts (because there are). The first part was in Austin, Texas with the first group of girls. The second was Lebanon, Tennesse with the other girls.
When I first saw the movie in theaters, I was in love with it. Jungle Julia, Shanna, and Arlene were as real as characters can get in my eyes and knowing that something bad was going to happen to them had me on the edge of my seat.
The first half had some excellent lines and great shots/scenes. And from the moment when the TX girls and Stuntman Mike hit the highway... just wow. Everything seemed to be so real. The music, the dark night, girls actually acting like real girls just driving along and feeling the music... then the spectacular crash sequence. It's film-making like this that gives me shivers and makes me strive harder to break into the business.
Then here comes the second half of the film. New group of girls and Stuntman Mike watching them. But I honestly can say I didn't care one bit for the rest of the movie. It seemed to come from a whole new film. The mood went from a dark, yet fun thriller to a (kind of) light-hearted action flick. Stuntman Mike lost his cool and turned into a baby and these girls didn't interest me.
I honestly think that if you shut off the movie when the Sheriff and his son finish talking about Stuntman Mike, it's pure gold.
Anyone else share this view point or care to counter it?
Sorry I wrote an essay
