Gosling reportedly the new Jack Ryan.

January 22, 2008 - Oscar nominated actor Ryan Gosling (Fracture, Lars and the Real Girl) will reportedly succeed Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in the role of heroic CIA analyst Jack Ryan.
Moviehole.net heard the claim from none other than filmmaker Phillip Noyce, the director of the Jack Ryan films Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Noyce made the revelation while informing the site that, contrary to earlier reports, neither he nor Ford would be reteaming to make another Jack Ryan movie.
As they tried to do with the Affleck starrer The Sum of All Fears, Paramount wants to make a young Jack Ryan movie. Both the Jason Bourne series and the Bond films have found success by casting thirtysomething actors in the lead roles. Gosling is 27.
It was first rumored in 2003 that Affleck would not be back as Jack. Paramount snagged the screen rights to Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan novel Red Rabbit in 2003, hiring Robert Rodat to pen a screenplay adaptation for producers Michael Ovitz and Mark Canton. Then in 2006, it was reported that Paramount Pictures had put two long-in-development Clancy film adaptations, Without Remorse and Rainbow Six, into turnaround while the studio sought to revamp its Jack Ryan franchise with a new lead actor.

Paramount now reportedly only controls the screen rights to the character of Jack Ryan but not to any other Tom Clancy-created characters, such as John Clark. That means the studio can continue to make Jack Ryan films, but they won't be based on any of Clancy's books and won't feature any of his other characters.
Gosling's credits include Young Hercules, Stay, Half Nelson, and The Notebook. He made headlines a few months ago after his 11th hour departure from Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, where he was replaced by Mark Wahlberg.
