being an adult ruining horror movies?

We all remember being a kid and being scared as fuck by horror movies.I know that's why i'm fascinated by horror movies nowadays. The thing that sucks about being an adult and also a horror movie fanatic is that you don't really get scared anymore.Instead of being scared you think everything that is supposed to be scary is cool as fuck.I wish i could still get scared by movies, but i can't.At times i get creeped out by horror movies, but not fucking scared.I miss that feeling of not being able to sleep at night.Anyone else know what i'm talking about?

I can understand it but I wouldn't say it ruins anything. My Nana is in her sixties and she loves horror movies still.

Yeah I know what you're saying. I remember being frightened to death by the Tremors haha and NOES when I was younger. The last movie that kinda scared me was The Sixth Sense for some reason.

Last week when I watched Dead Birds, I got a little edgy because my girlfriend was scared and she added alot of atmosphere to the movie for some reason by covering her face in the blankets during the "scary" parts.

I think being an adult ruins the movie watching experience in general to some extent. Not so much the 'scary' factor in horror films but the fact as an adult you tend to be a bit more critical and all the little flaws and stuff you didn't notice as a kid is now glaring and obvious. Basically the older you get the more your suspension of disbelief takes a hit and considering how ridiculous most horror films are the horror genre tends to suffer more than most.

Nowadays, the only thing that really scares me is reality. I still love horror flicks but they haven't scared me since I was a kid.

The most exciting thing about horror movies when I was a kid was that I wasn't allowed to watch them, so the thrill of darting my eyes back and forth between the TV and the door was something I've rarely been able to recreate in my life.

They definitely don't affect me as much as when I was younger but I can still get creeped out at times.

I'm not affected in the same way. However, being older, I'm able to appreciate movies on a different level that I never could or would when i was younger.

When you're young you have little or no responsibilities. So watching horror movies is what gives you that rush of excitement, that tingle down your spine. But as you get older you have a lot more responsibilities and different fears to deal with. Horror movies are still my favorite pastime, but what scares the piss out of me is not making my rent on time.

Despite me not being an adult, the same applies to me. There are times when I get creeped out, but not scared. That's why I loved playing scary games. They scare the shit out of me.

It does ruin it for me i'm constantly going to the video store or the movies looking for that movie that's going to scare the piss out of me but nothing comes through. Halloween scares the hell out of me still though. I can't watch it by myself the music alone makes me run real quick through my hallway not looking at anything in the darkness other than the floor to get a quick drink then rush back close my door and continue watching the movie. I wish i can find more movies like that

You want to scare adults talk to them about retirement, death, end of the world, their family, the future, what would they do if their spouse dies? Or, what if some crazed madman attacks you or your kids etc etc when you become an adult you realise nothing in a movie can ever compare to the horrors of reality and only then will you remember that Horror movies like all other forms of entertainment are just a way to pass time to if only just a second to cast your worries and thoughts away from the truth of how bad life sucks or better yet how short it really is.

but then you have to question yourself. If life is so short and time is unmeasurable why are you wasting it on such trivial things as bad horror movies? those 2 hours could be better spent elsewhere, like your kids? your girl? life is taken for granted so much. and no i'm not the Jigsaw lol

Adults think too much, thats the problem.

As a child, how often did you question the quality of make-up or CGI? How often did you actually hate an actor/actress? How often did you even know what a director was or what he/she did in the movie?

We do this and more as we grow up. Over-thinking and over-examining movies to the point that we do not really see the movie, but the parts of it (script, cgi, acting, directing, ect, ect). The whole forest through the trees mantality.

Hard to get back to watching a movie rather than the parts after a few years of doing it. Some of us are too stuck on that crappy CGI monster to see what else is going on. *shrug* Let things go, if you can... drinking or being partly asleep gets you there for a little bit.

Most folks like "us" though, who were practically raised on horror, are so horribly desensitized that it takes more and more to freak us out. If I want to watch something scary, I'll put on an Asian ghost flick.

The only filmmaker today that I think has any kind of concept of what scaring the shit out of folks is all about, is....well....ummmm....hmmmm.
Come to think of it, I don't think ANY of them know anymore!

    I still enjoy the experience.

It was a lot more fun when I was younger.
Me and friends riding our bikes to the video store to check out the horror section for the newest release VHS,Then borrowing a VCR,and finding a house who's parents were gone for the evening and a bunch of us just sitting around snacking and watching horror flicks all night long.

I've found, since I no longer scare easily like I used to, I enjoy watching horror flicks with people who aren't used to them. I love to see when they jump and get tense, especially when I can see a scare coming from a mile away.
