Call me crazy, but I found this movie to be nothing but cheap acting and over hyped. I truly went into this movie underestimating how terrible it could be. I, on the car drive to Lincoln Nebraska (I live in Omaha), told my friends how I was not getting to hyped for this movie because I don't want to be let down, but I was let down by how HORRIBLE this movie was.
First off, the acting is horrible. It was good in the beginning, but somewhere along the line it blacked out and went far far far south. I read above that the couple's chemistry was awesome, sorry but I did not even see a little chemistry, they seemed more like brother and sister to me.:starefreak: I also found this movie lacking any scares at all.
They appearantly have 21 nights and yet only 5 or 6 of those nights produce any real activity. The activity that is produced is shown in all of the commericals *minus an attic scene*. The scares were absolutly nothing, in fact I would take a 10 year old to see this movie. The scares are pathetic and the only true 'jump' scare they produced anyone could see coming.
In between the nights they had ANNOYING dialogue between the couple, and sometimes a random friend and a psychic. The 'couple' never seemed to agree on anything and when they did it felt to overbearing and pushed on the audience.
The camera aspect was very cool, and I give mad props to the producers to try and pull a Blair Witch (which I absolutly love). The whole background of the couple using this camera at night to try and capture paranormal activity was very very cool and a great idea, that to me fell flat. Once again they show the most random stuff in this movie. I did not need to see the main camera man try to give impersonations in a mirror while his girlfriend takes a deuce. The idea would have been sweet if it focused on the night time activity more and less of this 'couples' personal life.
Overall I feel like this movie was NOT the scariest movie of the decade, but, in fact, the biggest LET DOWN of the decade. To call a movie of any genre the 'movie of the decade' it has a lot to live up to and sadly this movie had nothing, but a great concept and a cool point of view. I walked out of this movie with one thought "I have had dreams with higher scares than this movie." The rest of the theater also agreed due to their incessive laughter at 'scary' scenes, i.e. the ending. In some parts of the movie I even heard "This is a disappointment" and "Can we just go?".
5/10 and that is me being VERYYYYYY generous. I just could not get into this movie at all. But to those that did, congratzzzz.
