Huh? Sam Raimi didn't even write or direct The Grudge. He only produced the film. and lets be real, it doesn't take much skill to remake a film like "Juon".

All the fiery visions in the apartment were total overkill, although I must admit that I did like the Chinese Restaurant fire scene... in retrospect -- a scene I would have genuinely applauded had it not been for all of the other preceding vivid visions of fire which caused them all to blend together as if it was all part of one giant "fire fetish" party or something, so that by the time you realized that the vision experienced in the restaurant was related to a specific and separate event it had lost it's effectiveness.
The fiery visions were explained in the end, but, you said you didn't finish the movie.

(Granted, I have yet to see "Crocoshit Ari," i.e. "One Missed Call," which, from all I've been hearing about it and judging from the trailers, is well worth missing, and "Punk'd"... I mean "Pulse" -- so who knows? maybe one or both of those remakes could possibly whip me up into even more of a frothing mouthed frenzy.)
and that is just dumb. :shakehead

Either way. it sucked when compared to the original.

Finally saw this on Monday night.

Jessica Alba's acting was pretty 'eh' ish. But you really don't need any great acting skills to be in the role of this movie. The first half hour or so was pretty slow for me. And I thought it was going to be pretty bad. Thankfully, the film picked up and got better.

I actually got freaked out by the shadows in the hospital. So that was a plus!

So overall, I'd have to agree with someone who said this is one of the better Asian remakes. And it was pretty good for a PG-13 film.

Whenever the movie was over, my random self kept asking people from the theatre, "Have you seen my report card?".

I wouldn't go that far. Not saying shes Meryl Streep, but she can carry a role. Just not a lead IMO.

You guys compare it to the original. I mean, you have to understand the remakes are made since most people don't want to watch the originals due to the fact that you usually have to watch it with subtitles. You're lucky if you get a movie with dubb... even then, I don't like Japanese horror. That's just me though. However, the Ring 1 sucked... Ring 2 was good. Dark Water was boring. Pulse was wtf!? And I haven't seen any of the others.

I like Jessica Alba; Dark Angel was amazing! I wasn't pleased with the last Fantastic Four, but I haven't been impressed with any of the Marvel movies recently. I haven't see The Eye yet, but I plan to see it. Since I can't stand Japanese horror movies, I'll probably like the remake. lol That's just me though.

Point is, why bitch about the remake when it's not supposed to be better than the original and probably won't be? It's made for American audiences. Horror fanatics are, most of the time, too hard to please. They're not going to make movies specifically to please fanatics. They're creating the movie for all of America.

The original Eye is a Hong Kong film, so you should probably say you can't stand "Asian horror" instead.
