The zombies were merely fodder. The movie is great, but the gore and charactors are it's main attributes. No way anyone has any problems with those slow, clumsy zombies. Plus I never understood how the zombie situation could get so out of control, when were so easy to dispose of.

    The movie isn't overrated though.

Alright, I am not going to call any of these overrated but these are movies I dislike that many people seem to enjoy.

Childs Play, all of them, I think they suck the big one.
Friday and 13th, and later sequels. (I liked 2-4.)
Stir of Echoes gets a lotta love on the board, I found it boring.
    The Fly
    Lucio Fulci movies.

i always thought that even tho they are so easy to disposed of...people eventually die creating more zombies and thus the cycle continues...with the mass panic that would start during the beginning of a outbreak ,the outbreak would get very out of control..thats my own vision anyway

Especially considering the rut the genre has been in for the past twenty or so years (especially now with all the torture porn shit), seeing something with some intelligence, character development, decent writing, etc. is always refreshing... and when it balances it with good gore, it's even more impressive.
intelligence, character development, good writing, etc. has nothing to do with someone's jilted view on society being crammed down your throat. I just mean that it is much more effective (for me) when a moral message is subtle....such as "The Descent".

As for being on here, I love horror movies. Does it make me a horror buff? Not in my opinion... horror buffs, to me, are guys who are really into horror movies: the directors, writers, actors, even the stunt guys and make-up artist or the special affects guys. I mean, I love certain directors and writers, but I never go beyond that. I just love horror movies.

Still, Re-Animator, The Thing, 80s monster movies like those really weren't interesting. Stuff where it's mindless gore and no story or terrible acting and directing is completely overrated like Bad Taste, Army of Darkness, etc. That's just my opinion though.

I'm pretty sure that's the point though, the fact that people were underestimating the issue.

I don't how the message was being crammed down our throats, sure there are scenes where it's alluded to... but overall it's ignorable.

Let me tell you Haddonfield looks exactly like what my hometown of Waconia on a fall day. When I see the wind blow and the leaves rustle the first thing that comes to my mind is Michael Myers.
Halloween to me feels real, and unlike other board members, for me it has a lot of replay value. The atomosphere is fantabulous, music is chilling, and Dr. Loomis's character is very well done. The most underrated part of the movie is Sheriff Brackets performance.
