Please NEVER remake NOES...

I was at work today and had a convo with some people when it was slow and someone randomly said they should remake NOES. I became pissed and said a loud, "NO". They asked why and I said because they would probably get another actor to play Freddy and Robert Englund IS Freddy and no one else could do the role justice. They fought back saying who cares, he is in makeup and everything. I then replied, what about the mannerisms, the voice?

I don't want it to be remade because it still holds up pretty well today, but 'Not having Robert Englund' as Freddy Krueger isn't a huge reason for that.

Nightmare on Elm street with Robert as Freddy=Excellent, but Remaking this has nothing to do with that, Many People Including Me want to see this Remake, as long as Rob Zombie & Johnathan Liesbian is not Directing it!!!

That's the funniest part about it... Many of those who bitch the loudest about a movie being remade will be the first on the board posting about how they just watching it on opening night and how much it sucked.

I am always excited to see remakes, whether they are bad or not. I don't think they degrade the originals, cause they don't change my opinion of the originals, and I like seeing a fresh take. Not a lot of them really satisfy me, though. But some do!

I think it's a HUGE insult that Platinum Dunes hasn't asked Robert Englund to play Freddy yet. He is really the best man to play Freddy without a doubt. I can't respect any company that disrespects my favorite character and my favorite actor of all time! I am at least fighting to attempt to get them to see how a lot of the fans feel. If it doesn't work, then so be it....I will NOT go see this movie without Robert, but there's more chance of them changing their mind than if we don't do a thing about it. I'm sick of all these stupid remakes too.

If you're a Freddy fan, please sign our petition to keep Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare Remake.

Also please help spread the word about this petition. Many fans feel the same way I do and now it's time to attempt to stop this. It's too early for Robert to retire this role. He should at least have one final film as Freddy....let's make it happen and let Platinum Dunes and New Line know how we feel here!

Robert Englund has done said in a interview that he is personally done playing Freddy cause hes getting to old. Im sure if Robert Englund really wanted to play the part again he wouldnt need any help from a bunch of horror movie geeks.

I think if someone else plays Freddy, it could be really cool. No one ever thought anyone could play the Joker after Jack, but the character was taken in a different direction. I think that's what has to be done with Freddy. It has to be way darker and more morose. I think a remake of this could be really friggin scary. As long as Freddy and Nancy are played by 2 good actors, I say go for it.

On movies.com I saw a little info box saying there was talk about the young guy who plays Lex Luther in Smallville taking the Freddy role in the new one.

The risk of putting Robert Englund back in the Freddy role if they were to do a remake is that they then allow the audiences to bring a persona to the table. Beyond NOES 3 Freddy's image was kind of diminished in the sense of being a horrific villain; he had more character, more flare in his presence that wasn't brought about by fear, but by his puns and witty remarks. So if they wanted to remake NOES with all the new technology necessary to make it ten times scarier than the original, they'd have lost in their attempt before they'd even started because people would already approach the film with a somewhat lighthearted view on Freddy. And you can argue that it's the director's and the writer's responsibility to re-inject the fear into what they already have, but it would be completely unfair to a filmmaker approaching the franchise for the first time to try to make a scary movie out of material that's been made comedic by previous filmmakers whose decisions he had nothing to do with.

I was more than pleased with the TCM remake and the Dawn of the Dead remake, I was thrilled at first but am now just kinda at peace with the Halloween remake, and I think NOES is one of the great franchises with one of the great characters that affords it enough potential for an acceptable, if not great, remake.
