    Scream: 20th Anniversary

I can't believe this, it has been twenty years ago since I sat in a theatre and watched this film, when it was re-released in April of 1997, but it's initial release was December 20, 1996. However, the film is supposedly a revival of the horror genre, back in the 90's that is. And you guys know I love these films, my favorite being that of Scream 2 (thanks to a very convincing performance from the main villain, Marco Beltrami's score and the late Wes Cravens assured direction). Later on after 3 sequels it would move from theatre to television in the Scream series, but without the appeal of the movies and Kevin Williamson pen.

So how do you guys like these films and what was your favorite out of all four of these?

I caught the flick in the theaters some weeks after it was released, so I watched it alone and to a fairly empty theater. I was around 14, so my mom had to buy my ticket. It really blew my mind at the time, especially with the unconventional ending and it still remains as one of my fav. slashers and definitely my personal fav. of all the movies. It was also one of the first "meta" movies that I saw, so that aspect of storytelling was unique and memorable to an impressionable young horror fan like myself.

The sequels offered some interesting ideas, and lots of nice familiar faces and cameos, but never quite lived up to the first, especially storywise. Never thought there'd come a time when it even had its own television series, but here we are and it's surprisingly decent. There were obviously talks of another sequel, but naturally with Wes gone it's no longer happening, which is for the best anyway since the last film wasn't very good, especially when it came down to the terrible "twist."

Loved the much needed kick in the ass it gave the horror genre at the time.

I thought Scream 4 did more harm than good, if 3 didn't do that already.

Seriously, how many people want to kill Sidney Prescott? It got really fucking silly.

The first film was great, but hard to watch nowadays outside the opening scene. I feel Scream 2 holds up more, despite not being the better film.

Scream 2 definitely had its moment, especially the beginning at the movie theater

I loved the first one...really did bring the slasher genre back into the spot light! 2 was good as well...for some reason I liked 3. I mean I know it was bad but I liked it!? 4 was meh. All in all I think it is a solid slasher
