that doesn't look as bad as i thought it would. the scene in the aquarium was pretty cool.

the biggest mistake is casting momoa. he has the physique but lacks talent. his success in game of thrones was largely due to his not speaking.

the "dc extended universe" has to be the biggest let down.

the peter david aquaman series from the 90's and early ohs is an amazing read.

too bad they messed everything up. there is no more official dceu. its all going to be movies only loosely related to each other.

Ok I have some thoughts on this movie itself but first I'll fess-up my feelings on the character himself.

I hate Aquaman, (yes I know all about his "badass" runs and how cool and edgy they made him in the 90s and 2000s.) I just don't give a shit. His powers are undefined and always fluctuating to fit whatever story. I don't care about Atlantis. The only Aqua man stuff I like is when he's part of a supporting cast like in Morrison's JLA run.

As for the DCEU version, I fucking HATED Aquaman in Justice League. He was the worst character in the movie. His whole dude-bro vibe made me nauseous. The thought of him holding his own film...ugh.

Now for the trailer itself:
The CGI ranges from awesome (fish people jumping off the boat in the typhoon) to abysmal (Orm's underwater shot or most of the underwater shots seem to be Phantom Menace levels of quality).

Mara's wig looks SOOOOOOOO bad on land. Like WTF. The underwater shots of her look solid.

The dialog is cringy and the tone seems to fluctuate between wisecracking and dark and brooding.

In all this trailer seems inconsistent at best, and a jumbled mess at worst.

I hope I'm wrong because I really like James Wan, he's a talented filmmaker and I'd like to see him do well. This does have a chance to be on par with Wonderwoman...but that would be a best case scenario.

James Wan is a talented director, but from the looks of things and given how WB has been behaving lately with these DC movies it's probably just going to be an incoherent mess because they don't know what to do with their characters except for Batman and Wonder Woman.

Looks like it could be good. I've always liked Aquaman. Ocean Master is a pretty decent villain, and Black Manta was always awesome.

I'm hoping it good, at least. DC has been pretty meh with their movies for the most part, which is a shame because I'm a way bigger DC fan than Marvel.

I couldn't agree more. I'd rather see a Red Hood or Deathstroke film.

Wow James Wan really nailed this, it was one of the weirdest and insane films I've seen. It is full of amazing visuals and action set pieces and spectacular underwater sequences. It's a huge world spanning film both underwater and on land.

I didn't think I'd like the movie, but once I bought into the whole underwater world/people I surprisingly enjoyed it. Call it a guilty pleasure, but I had fun with it. I never cared for the character in general, but Momoa made Aquaman fun and likable. I was mostly impressed by the look of the movie, specifically the underwater city. Lots of nice colors and decent CG made it all visually stunning. The pacing was pretty solid as well. Overall an enjoyable watch 7/10
