What Have They Done to Solange
Release date: 1975
Director: Massimo Dallamano
What Have THeyDone to Solange? Well not mucn in much opinion.
As the movie begins we're quickly introduced to the two main charectors Henry and Elizabeth. The crafty Henry is trying hard to get laid, but he's meet with some resistance from his lady friend. She spots a half naked woman running in fear and the subsequent murder. After that the the girls of a local Catholic school are targets for a roaming killer :cheerlead
The film moves along at a very slow pace after the intial murder. Which isn't shown, but has some nasty photo's displayed of the victims vagina being used as a pin cushion. Ouch!! It then turns into more of a love story between the two leads for the first half of the film. Which is not what I like to see. There is an other offscreen kill identical to the first somewhere in there too. Finally after about an hour of of uneventfulness you start to feel very frustrated. Thankfully the killer feels your frustration and unleashes it upon another victim, in satisfying fashion.
Sadly thats about as good as the film gets. The rest of it is spent talking about the potential killer and an elusive girl Solange. Who is thought to have something in common with the recent events. Which is fine if you like exccessive dialogue, I don't!
By the time the end rolls around and all the twists are revealed, you're just glad it's over.
There really is nothing redeeming in this movie. The girls aren't very attractive, the kills are all offscreen, except for one them. The acting here is on the low end of mediocre, and the killer is lame to top it all off. I wont even get started on the finale...
So basically everything I like in a Giallo is either toned down or non exsitent.
Musical compostion for the flick was done by Ennio Morricone, so I expected better. It is a very uninspired soundtrack to say the least. Adding slow, boring, music, to a sluggish uniteresting film was not a good idea. The music is so bland that it puts you to sleep faster than the film, and thats saying something.
The Bottom Line:
What Have Done to Solange is a bland, boring, tentative, endurance test. Getting through the film is like an impossible chore, that is not to likely to be repeated.
I am going to be kind with a rating of 4/10.
Which is probably more than it deserves. But rejoice people, the cure for insomnia has been found..
