There are a handful of movies that are just pretty much universally revered by horror fans world-wide... Genre fans just tend to put these movies on a pedastal and act as if there's nothing better...
Many of these movies just don't do it for me... never did as a young pup, and still don't today.
Top of my list would be:
Black Christmas (the original) - Pretty good movie if I need something to put me to sleep... No, I didn't like that you don't learn anything about the killer... As a plot device, it didn't impress me. And the end of the movie is fucking ridiculous.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original) - I remember watching this when I was in 6th grade, thinking it was gonna be so bad-ass. All the hype, all the people saying what a classic, brutal movie it is... It's a rare occasion that I'm that disappointed in a movie. I've revisited the movie occasionally over the years, just to see if my maturing tastes have had an effect on my opinion of the movie... and saddly it hasn't.
Halloween (the original) - Boring as hell, if you ask me. Personally, I never quite got what people thought was so freaky about The Shape. Yes, yes I know we have Halloween to thank for the slasher genre boom in the late 70's and 80's and all its influence in the horror genre and yadda yadda yadda, but to be honest the highlight of that movie for me was seeing PJ Sole's titties, and that wasn't really anything to write home about.
Anybody else have a movie or two or three that everyone considers as untouchable horror gold that you really just don't give two shits and a fart about?
