This is way too easy to answer. Ledger. No question and it's not even close. No one else can ever touch this role again. Retire it, hang it in the rafters, it can not be topped.
FrighT MasteR : in all seriousness, i really do think he's a little slow in the head

Ledger did an amazing job no doubt but I still love Jack's quirky and over the top Joker.

Tough to say. Romero played the Silver Age Joker as good as it could get. Nicholosn played Tim Burton's Joker. Hammill's was toned down because it was animated and he only gave the voice, so I think he can't really be considered. Ledger played the Joker I prefer, the black comedy, evil Joker. So it's hard to compare them, but I will say I highly prefer Ledger over all of them.

Bad poll, no offense. Each was played right according to the 'feel' of its surroundings. Jack did the Joker over the top and funny cause thats what that film called for. Ledger played Joker dark and twisted cause thats what the "new feel" of batman films has been molded into. The remaining two are of minor consideration. In animated it is hard to really become the character, so can't blame him there. And tv is so restraining, its sad.
Honestly, can anyone really say that if they had Jack do the Dark Knight Joker he would have done the same approach as his first attempt?
Roles are hindered by their media and their atmosphere. If every foe shown in the prior batman films (catwoman, mr freeze, poison ivy, ect) is redone in the batman begins/dark knight approach, every one will be done totally different than the prior incarnation for no other reason than the new approach is more mature.
