I'd say it was in a sense.

Though, a particular favorite horror timeline of mine were movies between 1976-1984. Most of the movies I really enjoy fall into this timeline.

A resounding FUCK NO is the only answer to this question.

No thanks I get enough sleep. Honestly I've tried watching things from the 50's through the 70's and with very few exceptions those movie bore the shit out of me.

Big difference between "boring" and indicting 30+ years of acting performances as being "cardboard cutouts."

DeNiro, Pacino, Nicholson, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, Brando, Peter Sellers, Katharine Hepburn, George C. Scott, Faye Dunaway, Jimmy Stewart...Normally, I'd say everyone's entitled to their opinion, but given the talent and the performances in question, that opinion is dead wrong.

    Agreed.

I think age is what comes into play the most when deciding that some how the 80's was this pinnacle moment in cinema history, since the feeling of nostalgia is really what makes people believe those movies were good. They also seem to frequently ignore the fact that alot of shit was produced in that time frame but has been shoved to sides to be forgotten about simply because it was so bad. Even the good movies have a nice layer of cheese on them.

I own quite a number of titles myself that come from the 80's but to sit there with a straight face and say that was the best decade for movies is really pushing it. Then to say acting has gotten better as time progressed is laughable since this day and age the only thing that is required from actors is to look good.

Easy ladies don't get your panties in a bunch. I don't like the majority of things that came out before and the performances of the actors listed just don't cut it for me. They have good work after, those that did work after, but nothing of interest or enough personality before. If you don't like my opinion that's cool whatever but to me the majority of everything before still sucks.

I think there is probably a pretty equal amount of great movies from each decade. I think people might be remembering certain movies from their younger years and just making a blanket statement, probably no right or wrong answer to this question

Appreciate the opinions on both sides.

Always good to see a good debate on UHM.

    Absolutely not.
The 60's and early, early 70's had much more experimentation with both directing and writing (especially the short period where no ratings system was in place) than just about anything the 80's put out.

While I do not agree with the OP, I will say that every decade, including the 1980's had very good films.

I think a lot of opinions in this are tainted with the 'horror was best in the 80's' mentality that permeates this board
