This almost feels like it will end up being a found footage or some type of camera crew perspective movie!

Sounds like it will both a reboot and a sequel
http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/the-...l-and-a-reboot
So, it sounds like the remake is separating itself from the Tobe Hooper original. But, now we have additional details from MovieHole that seem to be putting the screenplay by David Lindsay-Abaire (OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL) more in line as a sequel. Check out these details:
Firstly, the Kenan-directed Raimi-produced reboot – much like the Evil Dead remake – exists in the same world as the previous Poltergeist films. So while it is a "reboot" of the franchise, it’s also somewhat of a sequel – taking place years after the Freeling’s [sic] were ran out of town.
In one scene in the new film, the kids’ [sic] find some things behind the sliding panel in the attic. Yep, you guessed it – they find some of the Freeling’s possessions, intentionally left behind. There’s the Star Wars bed sheets (from Robbie’s room), a black-and-white TV set (why, of course!), and some Christmas decorations.

Poltergeist Remake Gets Backing From MGM And Fox
http://badassdigest.com/2013/06/20/p...m-mgm-and-fox/Perhaps you thought the Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert-produced Poltergeist remake had fallen through, as no real news about the project has come out in a while. It turns out you'd be wrong.
Deadline reports that MGM is hooking up with Fox 2000 to co-finance and distribute the film. Monster House's Gil Kenan will direct David Lindsay-Abaire's script.
Here's a snopsys which gives you an idea of what kind of Poltergeist film they're going for:
In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.
Maybe that doesn't sound so bad. The financial wrinkle at least makes it different enough that it can forge its own identity rather than just offer a retread of the original. That doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be good, but it at least gives it a chance.
Poltergeist is set to begin shooting this Fall, so it's coming whether you like it or not.

I agree with Freddy and Mac...I love this flick and although I'm usually 100% AGAINST remaking films that I love....for some reason I find myself accepting this.

I always liked the second one a little more. I think it was a little darker so that is probably why. I hate remakes of good movies and with all of the crappy ones why not remake those instead?

I'm not sure I'm a fan of this. Poltergeist is one of my all time favourite movies. Yes, it's not a very frightening movie (except for the clown scene...scares the shit out of me every time, won't even look at the screen) but to me it's more about what surrounds that movie. That just can't be replicated. I mean...I hope it's a decent remake, unlike the Omen remake, which was awful, I don't care what anyone says. Including a number of other issues with that one, no, I don't believe julia stiles is the mother of the anti-christ.
Anyway...I hope it's decent enough. A remake of this movie needs to be, and somebody mentioned that in the huge overflow of supernatural movies that have come out recently, it will have to be spectacular so as not to blend in with the rest of that mess.

I saw the images yesterday and don't feel anything with them. This flick seems like a waste.

Way too many unnecessary scenes. I have a feeling that they will be relying on jump scares to appease the teens of the theater more than horror fans. Sam Raimi as a producer doesn't mean crap anymore.

Is it just me or Sam Rockwell crying, saying he wants his daughter back is unintentionally funny?

I laughed so hard at the end of the trailer when Carolyn got yanked up by the ghost like a ragdoll with her head flopping around... XD
This remake looks....okay, it looks like they're showing all the good stuff, as most trailers for bombs usually do, but it could be good for a $5 Tuesday.
