That's like saying The Exorcist wasn't scary.
I feel sorry for people who didn't get the thrill ride both the above mentioned movies delivered too many fans. 1st time I saw NOTLD, I was so paralyzed with fear I was afraid to sleep that night, same goes for The Exorcist. If people, especially fans of horror, truly missed out on that experience, I feel sorry for you.
You missed out on one the primary reasons people make horror films: to scare you.

The Exorcist isn't really scary anymore compared to today's standards of cinema. NOTLD was boring when I saw it growing up and it's boring now.

Of course not everyone feels the same way about a particular film. Like I said before, I feel sorry if people who saw NOTLD and missed out on the impact that film CAN deliver. It did to me and millions of others.
Dawn was a great sequel to a great film...like Godfather 2 to The Godfather.

I respect the original NOTLD, but I tried to watch it earlier this week and couldn't do it. I was nodding off during it. It's terribly outdated.
The same goes for the Exorcist. I watched it a couple of Halloween's ago for the first time and was shocked at how fucking terrible it was. I was never scared and the only time it was interesting was during the crucifix scene. It had me cracking up. My GF, who hates horror movies, even said the movie was boring as hell.
I'll take Dawn and Day. Everything else from Romero has been mediocre at best.

The Exorcist, Night and Dawn have all been rippid off so much that it's difficult for today's audiences to understand it's impact at the time they came out.

People understand the impact they had and what message(s) they deliver, the problem is the movies aren't good enough to hold an audience anymore.

Just some quick thoughts from me. NOTLD is a true classic horror film. I think it is a well structured script. The special effects were amazing for that time period. The plot was exceptional. It is not all about the effects, acting, technicals..you get all that. I'ts the camera angles, the pacing, the darkness. The sense that something horrible has happened. The realistic TV news and the interplay of the characters and the methodical distruction of them are fantastic. The tension in the house is thick enough to cut with a knife. George Romero truly has established himself as ''King of the Dead''. I guess people say you have to see this film at an impressionable age, I saw it at age 10 and it has stuck with me all my life.

The original film is really only good if you saw it around the time it came out or (like weirden) at a very young age. If you see it now or later on in life it just doesn't compare to other films. Like others have said, it's outdated. I appreciate what it has done for the genre, but other than that, it's not a particularly good movie.

It should be displayed in the museum. Me and Fright, like we've said in our posts, aren't trying to take anything away from the film as far as what it's done, we respect it, but it doesn't mean the movie AS A WHOLE is good anymore. It isn't as entertaining as it once was 40+ years ago.

I no what youre saying? Grammar please. just giving you shit KMike. I would agree with you that NOTLD is entertaining, for me it has replay value and I can watch it just because of its dialogue. On the other hand I found Land lacking and it really dumbed down. Diary was ok and an upgrade from Land.
