Help a newbie with Hellraiser films

I just watched the first Hellraiser last night and I thought it was great. A+ but then I look on netflix and for the most part the seven sequels have gotten much lower star ratings and some people say just stick to 1 & 2. My question is which sequels are worth watching? Do any of them live up to the original?

Also can someone explain hellraiser 09...I read there is no director and a Barker supported script was rejected and replaced by the writers of feast and saw iv...what is going on?

Hellraiser 09 is a remake, Hellraiser 2 is just as good as Hellraiser, part 3 is decent, part 4 is also decent, and part 5 was different but good.

    There you go

The first is the best, the next couple of films aren't bad. Hated the fourth with the exception of a few scenes. The rest after that are decent renters, but nothing special.

If you want to know about the remake then check the page for it on UHM.

The second movie tries to establish the human beings as the main villains, which is cool in its own right.

The third movie -- not so good.

The forth does a noble job of trying to build a Hellraiser mythos. I liked it. A lot of people did not. It does come across as a sort of Hellraiser anthology.

Also check out Clive Barker's novella, The Hellbound Heart. That will explain a lot more and - quite possibly - offer a good justification for the remake.

Hellraiser:The first, of course, is the best.
Hellbound: Pretty good, but if you love the Cenobites, your heart will be BROKEN.
Hell on Earth: The worst. It becomes the generic monster movie. And that includes the slow walking and stalking. Aside from Pinhead becoming a more central character, it's not very good at all.
Bloodline: Other people don't like this sequel, but I enjoyed it. Somewhat stylish, the Cenobites look better than the ones in the previous film...a worthy watch.
Inferno: The first of the direct-to-video. There are some corny scenes in this one, but in the end it stays true to the whole concept of what the Cenobites do.
Hellseeker: Kirsty comes back. Very good sequel. I still need to buy it.
Deader: Haven't seen this one, but I hear it's VERY true to the mythology.
Hellworld: I was told to avoid this one.

Hellraiser is my favorite horror film and I'm glad you loved it, too. As for the sequels, here's my opinion.
Hellbound 7-10, never been crazy about it.
Hellraiser 3 4-10, only one cool scene
Hellraiser: Bloodline 6-10, sorta like the Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers to the Hellraiser series
Hellraiser: Inferno 7-10, proved that DTV doesn't mean its bad
Hellraiser: Hellseeker 6-10, Ashley Lawerence returns to the series, but that doesn't help the film
Hellraiser: Deader 5-10, a lot of people like this one, but I don't
Hellraiser: Hellworld 3-10, if I could erase the existence of one movie, this would be it. Spits in the face of the Hellraiser series.

Thanks for everyones input I'm definitely picking up a couple more of these movies.

I did have a question about this film it self. I didn't understand the whole process of Frank coming back to life. The first person she kills for frank it looked like only his bones and tendons were left on that guys body after frank got to it. Then body's after that seem to be more intact and just for the blood. But then Frank takes his brothers skin. Why did frank need someone elses skin? So your trying to tell me that Frank can regrow all his bones muscles brain eyes every thing but he needed someones skin? And how did he put that skin on so perfect I would think it would look more like leather face or buffalo bill then a perfect body. IF anyone understands this can you help?

I think he took his brother's skin so that no one would notice Larry had gone missing. And he probably thought that if the Cenobites somehow found them, he could trick them. That obviously wasn't the case. "We want the man who did this." Pinhead could look at a skinless body and tell who it was. The man knows his skin!

I enjoy the first 3 but never got around to seeing the other sequels. I had no idea until reading the lists in this thread that there were that many sequels

I also loved the church scene in the 3rd. For whatever reason I've always loved it and it's the one thing I think of when I think Hellraiser.

Always will be my favorite although I stop and one and two...after that I can forget that they ever existed. The great thing about 1 and 2 is that they can be watched back to back and make a pretty much 4 hour long movie.

I don't think he could precisely tell who it WAS. More like, at the sight of the skinless corpse, he had an idea that someone had indeed escaped them.
