I like the first 4 or so.. The rest are okay.

The first and second are the best. I didn't like the third as much but it was okay, I also thought the fourth was okay. I also think the fourth one should have been the last one in the series there because five, six, seven and eight are all garbage.

Never ventured beyond the 1st two. I think I have the 3rd on VHS which I will watch eventually, but I've never heard good things beyond 2.

When the Cenobites become the main villian of the movies, they go downhill. As such, I feel the third really begins the plunge in the wrong direction.
Stick with the first two, and maybe the rest of the series over time.

Nice short and concise review. I am also a huge fan of the series. I think the first and second were the best. I also enjoyed Inferno. I wasn't a big fan of Deader or Hellworld and thought they were both a waste of time. I am looking forward to the new remake though just to see what direction it will take.

the only reason why people kept watching the hellraiser movies is Bradley he is one of the coolest horror characters ever to hit a movie and with him in it giving him epic lines like, we will tear your soul apart only makes us nerds cheer with joy ^^.
hellraiser 1: 10
hellraiser 2: 9 - i didn't think the docter was strong enough to kill pinhead and that spoiled it for me.
hellraiser 3: i loved the consept of hell on earth and the cenobites being made but it failed to deliver what we really wanted
hellraiser 4: again relys mostly on bradley and the lines he gives anything else is a fast forward to the scene you want to see.
hellraiser 5: slightly steps away from the previous movies telling a story about the person who opend the box and what it meens to open the box, was ok but cant compete with the previous.
same goes with any of the hellraiser movies after 5 they started all following suit trying to focus on anything else with the cenobites and pinhead in the backdrop wich is not were they should be they deserve front row with your head on a silver platter.

I'm a major Clive Barker-fan, and I recommend first, 2nd, and the 5th.
3rd is very bad a movie, and 4th is watchable, though only because it has the sexiest cenobite in any hellraiser movie. 5th went for the 1st one's approach that cenobites arent some demons in hell but play a bit more minor role in the movie, (still being sinister). Later than 5th are pure garbage. Many of them are just teenage slashers or otherwise clicheed horror with only couple of scenes featuring pinhead so that it would sell at least something. Hellworld a great example of that. one of the most disappointing horror flicks I've ever seen.

you could say however that the ones after the 4th movie were seperate occations were the box had been opend like years before the 4th movie so if you go on that then there is plenty of room to make hellraiser movies based on period events when the box was opend by other people createing all new goretastic fun.
bring on the trumpet ^^
name some of the cenobites you like.

The whole "leviathan" mythology, and cenobites arent really Clive Barker's invention, rather he took the inspiration from this story about a sadistic magician and noble in 1700's who visited the lands of leviathan, I suggest reading them
Hellseeker is watchable, but after Inferno it kind of felt like "lets go with the same idea again, only slightly better", therefore I prefer Inferno.
And if you've read the original Hellbound world, Pinhead was actually one of those minor cenobites, and The Engineer was the main cenobite. Movie version deleted The Engineer for some reason.

I watched part 1 on OnDemand last night. I hadn't seen this since I was a teenager. I had forgotten most the whole movie. While the special effects are top notch and would be out any CGI of these days (cept for maybe the electrical effects around the box). But for the movie itsself??? its meh @ best for me. movie drags along for awhile.
Julia who I couldn't fucking stand was killing people for Frank so he could have their blood to regenerate, even though after the first victim frank was perfectly capable of doing it himself. And I thought it was dumb that the Cenobites coudn't even find him throughout the whole movie. This guy is trapped in hell, but all it takes is a little blood to bring you back? that was dumb I thought. And the way you stop the cenobites is by pushing a button on a box? that was dumb. So it had great special effects, and the cenobites were cool characters. But all in all I didn't really care for the movie itsself. Overrated IMO. So I say bring on the rumored remake, cuz all in all Pinhead I think is a cool character and I wouldn't mind seeing him again, although I saw some of the later sequals. God they were crap.. I hear the books a lot better than the original movie anyway.
