Do movies really need so much blood

I dont know when this whole splatter guts and blood trend started maybe with hostel? Thats when it started for me dont get me wrong i liked hostel but basically now that so many guys are doing these kinda tourture movies its basically giving them a license to say eh screw writing a credibal story that means anything to anyone and lets just get some poor kid and cut there toung off. I didnt really mind this shit till Seed came out? dead babies anyone? maybe a skinless dog? yeah man ok whoever made the movie seed basically all his movies are bad they say, but what he did in this movie was just plain screwed up. It was wrong on so many levels and you can say im a baby and blah blah blah man i dont give a flying Bleep what you think of me. If this is what the horror genre is coming to you all better start going to the woods (please dont do this im being sarcastic) get a video recorder and start running around and hope you make the next freaing blair witch cause thats the only good movies your gonna have for a long ass time if this trend of crap movies continues and continues and continues i mean stand up for yourselves guys im not trying to be mean what you gotta say to yourself is HEY HOLLYWOOD YOU NEED ME (US) WE DONT NEED YOU!

Night of the Living Dead (original)
Halloween (original)

Not all horror movies are the same. Some need the 100 gallons of fake blood. Nothing wrong with a good ole bloody horror flick.

i don't think horror movies need gore and blood, but i also think it depens on what type of horror movie it is and how its ment to be played out some movies all the gore and stuff i think should be there simply based off what type of movie it was but then other movies are great without it it just depnds on the movie i think

Not really, it depends on the horror movie I guess. Usually, I find that when horror movies are awful, the last thing I can fall back on is the blood/gore... but I also hate gore for the sake of gore, there are a few exceptions though like Dead/Alive.

Horror movies don't need to be bloody or gory. The trend of blood and gore didn't start with Hostel it actually started decades ago. We can pretty much start with most of the films we have labled as GIALLO. I'm not saying giallo was exclusively bloody/ gory; there were other films as well of course they weren't very well funded since it wasn't as popular or accepted as it is today . Herschell Gordon Lewis comes to mind as being a sort of a pioneer in the blood/gore films; although they weren't good.

Yes, horror movies need gore, not necessarily all of them though. I don't know about everyone else, but I go through phases with my films. Sometimes I want to see supernatural thrillers or ghost stories. Other times I feel like 80's slashers and ....and other times I feel like gore movies, the ones where I don't have to think very much and can enjoy the gross out gags and special effects. IMO Carpenter's The Thing is a fine example of a film that was both ultra gory yet well-made in having a great plot and fine acting; so it can be accomplished. But there's nothing wrong with gore movies. And they were around far longer than Hostel. You can trace gore films back to HG Lewis and Bloodfeast in 1963. It might be a growing trend now to have more gore in horror, but it doesn't bother me much. It's better than seeing a PG 13 Alien vs. Predator movie!

It's not just blood that makes a good horror film. You also need pus, vomit, piss, shit, semen, vaginal discharge, melted flesh, hacked off limbs, decaying rotten brains, squished eyeballs and at least 3 good explosions. Oh, and a plot (optional).
