UK, December 4, 2008 - In a surprising piece of casting news, lanky lothario Russell Brand is to play the role immortalised by diminutive Dudley Moore in a remake of Arthur.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brand is developing the remake at Warner Bros., with the project currently out to writers.

The original revolved around a lovable drunk who will inherit a fortune if he marries a stuck-up heiress. He falls for Liza Minnelli's working class girl, however, and so is forced to choose between love and money.

Brand recently appeared in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and also has a starring role in the forthcoming Adam Sandler comedy Bedtime Stories. His radio career has fared less well of late, however, with the comedian resigning from his Radio 2 show following an on-air prank that went wrong.
