Producer Brad Fuller has been talking to sites like IGN and Fango recently, revealing various little tidbits on the film. They've got the script and hope to begin filming sometime in May, but of course they still need to attach a director.
Fuller was quoted saying they are looking for a "visual director who can blow people away." He then added, "seamless transitions are the key, where the audience truly has no idea if it's a dream or not until it's too late you realize you've been duped for the last 30, 40, 90 seconds and the person's been dreaming the whole time."
Fuller also hinted that they may change Freddy's backstory a bit, "the concept of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street wouldn't work. The concept of the movie is the kids discovering what happened, and the kids paying the price for their parent's sins. What we're struggling with is how we have his crimes in a way where the kids can't just type in 'Freddy Krueger' [into Google] and come up with his arrest record."
As far as casting Freddy goes, Fuller reveals that Robert Englund is apparently not interested in reprising his role, but if he did they would consider it, "it’s a discussion we’ve had. We’d have to talk further about it."
One of the biggest issues right now is who is right for the role, saying, "there are amazing actors out there who we would love to have in the role. I don’t think you want someone in the part where people can’t see Freddy. You have to have somebody who is so good that they can become Freddy, or someone nobody’s heard of who can really pull off that character."
