Hopefully this restarts a more R rated approach of horror movies coming out .

I'm hoping Final Destination: Death Trip 3D can open up with the same numbers.

Also, does anyone else's theatre have the extra midnight showing? Maybe that extra showing is helping.

Not a shot in hell. F13 is a legacy in horror movies. It is a film people will just see to say they saw it. FD is basing on a gimmick to make some extra money.

The Halloween remake made 58 million overall.

LMMFAO at this almost beating that in one weekend.

Anyone think this will cross 100 million?

This is good news. I was disappointed with some parts of the movie, but overall I had a great time at the theater, and that's all I wanted. I'm glad it had such a great opening, and I hope that now the powers that be will realize that it's not the rating, it's the marketing that gives films good numbers.

Just got back from it and I thought it was a good Friday film and really the best film in the series since Paramount had the rights all together. Ironic that New Line/Platinum Dunes needed Paramount to put it together.

Now im gonna try not to be a fanboy here even though it will seem that way but the bottom line here is all the people that walked into this movie believing they were going to see a contemporary Friday the 13th circa 1980 and came out disappointed because this film has noticeable Micheal Bay/TCM remake flavor obviously missed what's going on around them in terms of remakes. They are either completely blind Friday the 13th nerds who are out to nitpick or their delirious IMO.

I thought they did a good job of taking Jason Voorhees circa Parts 2 through 4 and inserting him into a modern contemporary setting with modern teens and upping the ante by having Jason seemingly more intelligent than what they have portrayed him in prior movies.

The movie had plenty of T/A and drugs which are staples of the series and really people who are bitching about that aspect obviously never watched a Friday the 13th movie before.

The only thing I did not care for was probably the ending, it almost seemed like they ran out of time. Hopefully the supposed added material on the DVD release helps flesh things out more.

Then you have that crowd bitching because they did not try to fiddle with Jason's story or change him drastically. I say whatever only because we've seen Rob Zombies remake and the bitchfest that was the changing of Micheal Myers.

You can't have it both ways even though people seem to nitpick and bitch like they would want it both ways. Either they would have changed him completely or they would not have. For the most part he was the same only with seemingly more intelligence. People bitching about the ridiculous ways he dispatched some of the victims obviously never watched a Friday movie before. He has used projectiles to kill people. Back in the 80s, the same people probably would not have had a problem with it but today they do.

Again, the only real dislikes were the ending and one thing I was afraid of. Yes his primary weapon is a MACHETE but they did not have to have him overdo it like they did. In fact I enjoyed most of the kills outside of the ones that were only machete related because it was repetitive much like the way they had him kill peeps in Freddy vs Jason. Outside of that, I thought it was a good, solid 7.

OOOH, God willing. Honestly, I never thought about that before. Just imagine it: The first Friday the 13th movie (NOT including that crapfest FVJ) to cross the 100 million line.

I agree with what you're saying, but actually, Cunningham meant for FVJ to be Cannon with the original series as well. Tis why he set the beginning of Jason X in 2008 because he new that FVJ would have to take place after JGTH but before Jason X, and he wanted to leave a large enough gap there.

Anyhoo, this film was a good slasher. Not my favorite of the series, Definitely doesn't beat some of the originals, but it was good. I think my new rating of the movies in the series now goes from best to worst; 6, 7, 4, 3, The Remake, The Original, JGTH, Jason X, 8, 2, FVJ, 5.

The great things about this film are apparent so I'll only comment on the few things I disliked.....

    1. I loved the idea of taking Jason and re-creating him without the supernatural element. Much as the pre-part 6 Jason was, only with a bit more realism cause let's face it, Jason took some fatal pwnage on numerous occasions in parts 2-4 that should have killed him long before Mr. Jarvis went to work with the machete. At first I thought thats what they were doing, but alas...we're back to the "jason drowned, but somehow came back to life" mantra, and then the end scene obviously showed he was once again the "impossible to kill" killer we all grew up with.

    2. There was just something missing that kept it from feeling like a true Friday movie to me. Maybe the lack of legend, or lack of body count compared to the originals, or maybe the lack of the town of Crystal Lake knowing about Jason. I don't know what it was but something felt off. The original series took place in the woods surrounding a populated town that knew about Jason and only slept easily when he was dead or incapacitated in some way. This Crystal Lake seemed like a town that was mostly oblivious to Jason, and was able to function normally despite the fact that a deformed, homicidal maniac had been living in the surrounding woods and country for the past 30 years. The town also had a "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" feel to it in that it seemed desolate and deserted for the most part, as opposed to a thriving vibrant Crystal Lake in the originals which I prefer. It was almost as if you wouldn't be surprised to find a maniac hiding in the woods of this town, where as the original was a thriving, quiet, peaceful town plagued with the curse that was Jason Voorhees. I think I just wanted a little more back story and mythos that the original 4 delivered.

The last problem I had with this film is just a list of a handful of little things that kinda bothered me.

-There's no explanation on how Jason either returned from the dead after drowning, or somehow got out of the lake before succumbing to the water, and in either case, why he didn't seek out his mother so she knew he was alive instead of creeping in the woods and allowing her to think him dead which drove her insane? Granted, in the original, we are left with the same question and a much longer time period (roughly 26 years) that he could have sought his mother out, but I was still hoping that question would be answered This time around.

-Jason has evidently been living in the woods surrounding Crystal Lake for 30 years and killing off anything or anyone who was unfortunate enough to get close enough, yet the police seem oblivious to his existence, past murders. or even the possibility that he was responsible for the first group of teens' disappearance. The rich guy and his parents\family were also able to seemingly live in or vacation to this uber-cabin for the better part of those 30 years and never once be bothered by Jason, or ever hear any legends or stories surrounding him, past murders, or disappearances. Now all of a sudden he attacks the cabin? It was almost as if he had been around for 30 years killing, and there was no legend at all, something the original series was plum full of.

I suppose aside from those minor discrepancies, the film was gold for what it was meant to be; a slasher full of blood, sex, boobs, and cheap scares. For the most part I loved it, and am very much looking forward to future sequels.
