    Desensitized or Not As Good

Ok, I used to get freaked out by the films in our beloved genre. It seems here lately, I'm not responding the same way. I wanted that response when I watched the movies. I like fear. Fear is healthy. Now, granted, this could just be a growing up thing, gods how that scares me lol, but I put this question to you and look at it from your side:

Is it desensitization due to over exposure or are they just not as good as they used to be?

    What sayeth thou?

I would say that it is a little bit of both with a bit of reality thrown in. Through many years of watching horror films progress from what today's generation considers mild through to the present day horror film that many from my generation would consider tasteless, and unnecessarily brutal. I have gradualally over the years have become so desensitized to the horror genre that I crave and continuously seek out even one horror film that would raise even one hair on my head. Here-in lies the problem. Film makers have strayed from the arts of story telling and creative artistry , and have become more reliant on buckets
of blood and gore; which (at least to me has cheapened the horror film) .

I have also mentioned reality, well at least the area that I am familiar with most of my life has also gone through radical changes. There weren't as many sick deviants out there back when I was growing up . Could go trick-or treating without worrying about who's poisoned the treats or put razor blades in the apples . Parents weren't out to butcher thier own children ; sure we had child abuse , but in comparison to today's society..........please........society as a whole has become more violent , and this as well has contributed to our desensitization

Like, so many people out there were trying to track this down. And it just...got delivered on a tweet. What the hell.

I'd say I'm desensitized. I still find a few films creepy or unnerving, but for the most part I've seen what there is to see...

In my opinion there are just as many shitty movies made these days as there was back in the 70's or 80's.

They don't make them like they used too. I can see the scare moment coming pretty much and not bothered by it.So guess I have over exposure to the genre but its still my favorite.

I'd say desensitized for me. Only a few choice horror movies (Suspiria, The Shining, Quarentine) creep me out, but otherwise I'm golden and it takes a whole lot to freak me out. Back as a kid, Halloween, Night of the Living Dead, and one or 2 others scared the hell outta me, but now they're some of my favorites to watch and effect me little to none.

Horror movies were really only scary when I was young. That, and when I went through the operation to become a teenage girl.
