That's right I said. It's ok to remake Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Child's Play The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and any other long running series led by Horror Icons.
Everyone complains about all these remakes being a new trend but has everyone forgotten when Hammer remade all of the classic universal monsters? First remakes that become their own series with their own style.
NOW i'm not saying all of these remakes are great. Most suck or just turn out OK. Some are fantastic. It's a rocky road, but it's unavoidable once your favorite Horror movie Icon becomes just that. an ICON. They've become legends and won't die, there will always be new generations dying to give their interpretation of an icon.
There will always be new Dracula movies, new Frankenstein's and even Wolfmen. And now as the new legends have established themselves they will also always be new stories from them.
Now Granted, some things don't need to be remade. Rosemary's Baby for example. It's a horror classic but there isn't an Iconic monster/villain. The Shining doesn't need to remade but an more accurate adaptation of book can come out. Though last time they did that it sucked so maybe not.
Basically, once you've become an Icon, once you've become a franchise you're going to the way of Bond and Godzilla. It' won't end, so it's up to the fans to make sure the quality stays.
Just my two cents
